Henry Louis Aaron lived an extraordinary life. Henry Aaron was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1934 and grew up playing baseball whenever he got a chance, inspired by Black baseball players he followed in the negro leagues. At that time, baseball in the United States was segregated and the major and minor leagues did not allow Black baseball players. Forty years later, on April 8, 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia, Henry Aaron would break Babe Ruth’s homerun record providing one of the most exciting moments in both baseball and Atlanta history. Aaron overcame obstacles through personal determination and incredible acts of bravery at each step of his journey.

Kim Chong Hak, Painter of Seoraksan introduces the work of prolific Korean painter Kim Chong Hak to American audiences for the first time. Born in 1937, Kim lived through multiple conflicts and significant societal upheavals, including the Japanese colonization of Korea (1910–1945), the splitting of North and South Korea (1948), the Korean War (1950–1953), the turbulent democratic movements of the 1970s and 1980s, and ongoing tensions between the divided nations.Throughout all of this, Kim sought to respond to and express the impact of these often-traumatic changes to daily life in Korea. While many of his peers focused their attention on abstract, formal, and process-based explorations in their art (termed Dansaekhwa or monochromatic art) as a response to limits on sociopolitical representation and agency, Kim rejected this direction and instead turned to the Korean landscape.

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are! Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators. Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate. GIG Georgia - Atlanta Guest instructors : Anna Salome & Faye Cherrier Anna Salome began training Jiu Jitsu at age 20 as a college student. The first class she tried was a women's class. She says that the women in that class fully embraced her day one and that changed the trajectory of her life. She fell in love with the sport almost immediately and began training and competing consistently. With the support of an amazing team and instructor, her 20s revolved around competing at major tournaments. At age 28, she received her black belt from Master Roberto Traven and began running the women's class at her home gym - full circle achieved! At age 30, she had her wonderful son just before the pandemic. She says it was a difficult transition for her, but through it she learned that she is more than one thing. Now as a full-time working mama of two and a part-time athlete and instructor, jiu jitsu continues to be a cornerstone of her life. Faye began her journey in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to learn self-defense, but quickly fell in love with the sport’s competitive aspect. She medaled in all major tournaments in both gi and no-gi, motivating her to take her Jiu Jitsu to the next level.In 2020, she began training under renowned instructor Bruno Frazatto as a brown belt, achieving her black belt just two years later—a milestone she proudly cherishes.Now, as a passionate teacher and competitor, Faye aims to inspire future generations of athletes, emphasizing the importance of discipline, resilience, and the life skills learned through Jiu Jitsu.
