Apr 29, 2025 (UTC+0)
Bangor
GALLERY WALK & TALK KELPRA: Artists & Printmakers 2 - Spotlight on Joe Tilson Following on from last year’s highly successful prints exhibition “Kelpra: Artists and Printmakers” at the Ulster Museum, Seacourt Print Workshop is hosting an exhibition and Walk & Talk sessions focusing on the screenprints of the renowned British artist, Joe Tilson (1928-2023). Tilson is widely recognised and respected for his work in wood, sculpture, painting and printmaking and as an artist strongly associated with the beginnings of the British Pop Art movement in the early 1960s. His practice and artworks evolved over the subsequent decades to include exploring fundamental themes, including political engagement, the environment, ancient cultures and traditions. Our gallery Walk & Talk sessions will focus on two main areas:- 1 The genesis of fine art printmaking in the United Kingdom particularly the key role of the ICA and the Kelpra Studio, London 2 Joe Tilson’s development as a printmaking artist and the various key themes he explored in his prints. This will include providing background information about a number of the screenprints in the exhibition. The Walk & Talk sessions are aimed at school students studying Art as a subject, students in FE, artists, printmakers and others with an interest in printmaking and art in general.
