How Putin Speaks | Free Peoples of Russia House
Jul 11, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Since Vladimir Putin launched his war on Ukraine under the guise of a “special military operation,” many have questioned what truly motivates him. Linguists who have studied his language for years suggest the answers lie in his words — in his rhetoric, tone, and deliberate choice of language.
In this thought-provoking talk, Dr. Ksenia Turkova offers a compelling linguistic portrait of Putin. Drawing on years of analysis, she unpacks the rhetorical tools he has used throughout his presidency to project power, frame enemies, and shape public opinion.
Among the questions she explores: How do Putin’s words influence Russian society? What role does language play in constructing his image as a powerful, even mythic, leader? And what similarities can be found between his speech and that of political figures in the West?
Ksenia
Turkova
is an international journalist, editor, and media expert specializing in disinformation, propaganda, and the language of media. With a background in Russia and Ukraine, she has worked with Voice of America, Hromadske, The Insider, and other global outlets. She utilizes a foundation in linguistics and journalism and frequently comments on Russian-language media, hybrid warfare, and freedom of speech in the post-Soviet space.

Four Minute Speed Dating | Ultrabar
Jul 11, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Whether you are looking for a potential new soulmate, new friend(s), or just a good time, join us as we present an exciting Singles Party that attracts hundreds of people each time we host it.
Tonight, we host this event at one of DC’s hottest clubs.
Experience a dozen first dates in one evening as you join other single young professionals for a chance to find romance in TTD’s speed dating – and this time, even if you do not get a match, we have arranged for you to pass special messages to that special someone you may see across the room!
Here’s how it works:
SPEED DATING: Each attendee is given a name tag with a TTD number on it as well as an index card on which they print their name, TTD number, and email address. For the first hour, we line the men and women up and rotate everyone every four minutes so that each person gets the chance to meet about one dozen potential mates. Each person then writes down the TTD number of anyone whom they would like to see again and hands the cards to us. We sort through them, and a few days after the event, we email any mutual matches.
SECRET ADMIRER: What if you don’t get a response from that special someone? Or, was there someone you did not have an opportunity to approach? Throughout the evening, you may meet that special someone you want to send an additional message to. But, either you did not quite make a match, or you did not have an opportunity to approach him/her. So, For the next three days after the event, you will have the opportunity to email events@thingstodoDC.com and asking us to help you – the secret admirer – make a connection. Simply email us the following information:
1) The number of the person (the number listed on their name tag)
2) Your email address
3) A private message for that person
Though we will respect the person’s privacy and not email you back their email address or other contact information, we will pass your email along (with your email address and other contact info. you provide) and let fate take over.
Afterwards, stick around for late evening of dancing from some of Washington’s top DJs.

Maris Kreizman - I Want to Burn This Place Down | Solid State Books
Jul 11, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Join us for an exciting night with Maris Kreizman, as she discusses her debut essay colleciton,
I Want to Burn This Place Down
This in-person event will be held at Solid State Books on H St. NE. Don't miss out!
A debut essay collection by the inimitable cultural critic Maris Kreizman—an introspective, searing account of the life experiences that have pushed this former “good Democrat” even further to the political left
At the heart of this funny, acerbic, and bravely honest book of essays is Maris Kreizman, a former rule follower and ambition monster who once believed the following truths to be self-evident: that working very hard would lead to admission to a good college, which would lead to a good job at a good company, which would then lead to personal fulfillment and a sense of purpose, along with adequate health care and eventual home ownership and plenty of money waiting in a retirement account. Like any good Democrat and feminist, she believed that if she just worked hard and played by the rules, she was guaranteed a safe and comfortable life.
Now in her forties, the only thing Maris Kreizman knows for sure is that she no longer has faith in American institutions or any of their hollow promises. Now she knows that the rules are meant to serve some folks better than others; and, actually, they serve no one all that well—not even Kreizman. Disturbed by the depth and scope of the liberal myths in which she once so fervently believed, Kreizman takes readers on an intimate journey that revisits some of her most profound revelations, demonstrating that it’s never too late to become radicalized.
With Kreizman’s signature wit and blunt self-reflection, and more than a little transformative rage,
I Want to Burn This Place Down
is a book for anyone who wishes they could go back in time to give their younger selves the real truth about the fractured country they have inherited—and the encouragement to rebuild something better in its place.
Maris Kreizman
is an essayist and columnist for Literary Hub whose work has appeared in the

We think the best relationships are forged when we are comfortable, relaxed and free of pressure. Preferring instead to think of the evening as a casual night out where one can truly be themselves. We do not use traditional 'speed dating' offerings such as bells, whistles and name-tags. Instead we focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting others; a great venue, a personable host and a staff to assist.
Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, log-in to your scorecard and let the flirting begin. You'll be able to choose whom you wish to meet again, to what degree you like them and have until midnight to submit your final selections for matching. Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime.
Should you have any questions - feel free to ask away. Take the time before the event starts to settle in - have a beverage if you would like and mingle should you wish. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. The gents move from lovely lady to lovely lady every six to seven minutes. Your mobile scorecard gives you the ability to see all the participants attending your event, upload your picture, make your selections and be notified of your matches all from your phone.
Don't fret about figuring out if the person is the one or the perfect person for you. Consider it the date before the date. If you choose someone and they chose you - it's a match. You will be given each others first name and email address. The rest is up to you.

Course Overview:
Account Management is an important role within any organization. Account Managers are responsible for nurturing customer relationships and increasing sales with their organization's key customers. The Account Manager will usually act as a first point of contact for clients; responding to complaints, purchases, project requests and any general queries. Their approach should help maintain client relationships in order to ensure that they continue to use the company for business.
This Account Management training materials are suitable for anyone that works in an account management role or relevant sales function and will assist the participants in improving their working practices, developing customer relationships and in turn increasing business performance and sales success.
Course Contents:
Build a strong account management team that are able to effectively manage customer relationships and drive sales
The role of account manager is both important and demanding. The account manager acts as the ‘face’ of the business and should professionally represent the business by creating a strategy for success and delivering a high level of customer service. Account managers need to be effective communicators, needing to both engage with the client and also develop internal relationships to ensure promises are delivered upon. Another key responsibility of the account manager is to identify business opportunities and help drive business results for their company.
Why is taking this Account Management training a good idea?
Well, just imagine if you were better able to:
Build effective business relationships with clients and help drive sales performance.
Add value to clients and help ensure their requirements are met or exceeded.
Measure the performance of your key accounts and adapt their approach accordingly.
Understand the key attributes required for success and work on developing them.
Set a strategy for sales success and create action plans for pre-defined goals.
Monitor and measure your own performance and set your own targets.
Ultimately, this training will help employees to focus on what is required to succeed in the role of account manager, building a strategy with clear actions and helping the organisation to business success.
Account Management can be a very challenging role depending on the number of clients, the range of industries the clients represent, and the nature and attitude of the client. The main focus of the role is to provide continual client service to clients, this may include quarterly or annual business reviews, additions to the account in terms of extra services supplied plus face-to-face and online meetings, on a regular basis.
The Account Manager will also be responsible for delivering high levels of client service to ensure that clients do not leave and will need to create a strategy around this. This strategy will depend on the type of client in terms of size of the business commitment, Key Performance Indicators plus contractual agreements which may dictate the framework for the relationship.
Building a personal relationship as well as a business one is key to becoming an effective Account Manager. After all, “It is easier to fire a business associate or employee than it is to fire a friend”.
