Join the Living Museum of Logan and artist Kuweni Dias Mendis in a hands on session creating a unique set of handmade brushes using natural and found materials. Through meditative mark-making, each person will begin to explore their own visual language- rooted in their personal rhythms and relationship to place. Activities include: • Connecting with Place We begin with a short, mindful walk — observing, listening, and sensing the environment. This gentle immersion helps ground our creative process in the land around us. • Brush Making Using collected and provided materials, participants will craft a series of brushes, each designed to leave a distinct mark. The focus will be on experimentation and play, celebrating the uniqueness of each tool. • Making Your Mark Through guided meditative drawing exercises, participants will explore their intuitive gestures and mark-making. This is an invitation to unlock your own visual language, using the brushes you’ve made. Riverscope, is a contemporary, place-based multidisciplinary arts project led by artist Kuweni Dias Mendis, that explores themes of belonging, migrant identity, and regeneration. From April to July, Kuweni will be in residence at the Kingston Butter Factory, engaging with the Logan community through a series of creative and sensory experiences. This project is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Join the Living Museum of Logan and artist Kuweni Dias Mendis in this workshop where you will learn how to create a small indigo vat and dye your own threads. We will then explore wild stitching — a free-form, meditative embroidery practice guided by the rhythm of your own body. This intuitive process allows for deep listening, inner reflection, and spontaneous expression through thread. Activities include: • Introduction to Indigo We will begin with a discussion on the history, power, and symbolism of indigo as a plant pigment. Kuweni will share her personal journey with indigo and how it weaves into her current body of work for the Riverscope exhibition. • Indigo Vat Demonstration Participants will observe the step-by-step process of making a natural indigo vat and learn how to dye thread using this ancient technique. • Wild Stitching Practice Using the indigo-dyed threads, we will engage in a meditative stitching session — creating abstract works on fabric through slow, intentional movement. We have you covered! Rideau Rollers will be offering rental skates for this event which can be pre-booked through your ticket purchase under the add-ons tap. They will also have gear and accessories on-site to purchase. Never skated before? No problem! This event is open to beginners and seasoned skaters who are 16+. Tickets are 20$ for admission and $5 for skate rentals (+ tax). They can be purchased in advance through Event Brite, or the evening of we will be accepting cash payments. Please note skates will not be available to rent without pre-booking. Skate bookings will need to be finalized two days prior to the event.
