Beat-driven. Employing heavy elements of funk and soul, paris_monster closes a gap between synthesized sound & garage; between modern detail and old-school grit. Solid earth. Soaring soundscapes. A mass of noise. Volatility. Vocal singularity.
Loud, dirty, glitchy, lyric-centered, groove-based. Funk and soul join with lyrical themes of bygone eras in rural settings. Characters lost, mortality confronted. Love achieved, and denied. Americana. These themes stand in stark contrast to pounding grooves and electronic mayhem, creating depth and dimensions that could have been otherwise achieved only by dropping a modular synth in the corn fields of central New York or the woods of Connecticut.
paris_monster follows up the recent release of their latest full length album “Opalesce” immediately with the singles “Laugh It Off” and “Say It Again”.

eucademix (Yuka Honda) | The Mill
Jul 12, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Westport
“A figure in the New York City avant-garde and indie-rock scenes for decades.” – Tape Op
Eucademix
is the moniker of
Yuka Honda
, a producer, composer, performer, and visual artist renowned for her innovative, genre-defying approach to music and multimedia. Through her compositions and self-crafted video art, Honda seeks to transport audiences and expand the possibilities of sound and visual expression.
Her work is shaped by a bold and distinctive fusion of influences: the experimental energy of New York’s downtown jazz scene, the raw power of hip-hop and street music, the intricacies of classical music cherished by her mother, and the profound inspiration of nature—wild, beautiful, and at times mercilessly harsh. Honda’s artistry blends experimental textures with rhythm-driven grooves, engaging both the intellect and the body.
During the COVID-era lockdown, Honda conceived the idea for her solo electronic project, naming it Eucademix after her second solo album (
Eucademix
, released on Tzadik). Though the project was developed in isolation, she envisioned it as a live performance, limiting her instrumentation to what could fit in a carry-on bag and a backpack. The solitude made her realize that connecting with a room full of people through music was the most vital aspect of her work. Over the past few years, she has cultivated a singular performance style by following her instincts. She describes her artistic approach as “continuum, quantum, and sensory.”
Born in Tokyo, Honda spent her formative years in Germany and Denmark before later living in Aix-en-Provence and Paris. These cultural experiences deeply inform her sonic explorations, resulting in a distinct and boundary-pushing body of work.
In 1994, Honda co-founded the band
Cibo Matto
with Miho Hatori. Their debut album,
Viva! La Woman
(1996), captivated audiences with its iconoclastic fusion of influences and infectious grooves, spending six weeks at #1 on the CMJ charts. Their iconic music video for “Sugar Water,” directed by Michel Gondry, remains a visual and conceptual masterpiece.
More recently, Honda has continued to explore new creative directions with her two-part EP series
Farm Psychedelia I
and
Farm Psychedelia II
, released under the Eucademix moniker. Alongside her solo work, she collaborates in the duo CUP with her husband, guitarist Nels Cline, blending poetic lyrics with experimental soundscapes. She also performs in Mycorrhiza, a project with multi-instrumentalist YoshimiO (of Boredoms and OOIOO), exploring vibrant, improvisational music that reflects their deep creative synergy.
Honda has collaborated with an impressive roster of artists, producing albums for Sean Ono Lennon and Martha Wainwright, among others. She has performed at numerous tributes and special events, including creating an orchestral arrangement for the Ryuichi Sakamoto Tribute at Roulette in New York City.
In 2019, she premiered her multimedia opera,
No Revenge Necessary
, at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY. This work explored the coexistence of humans and AI entities in a post-apocalyptic world, reflecting on themes of resilience, transformation, and the complexities of humanity.
Deeply connected to the rhythms of the natural world, Honda is also a board member of the
Catskills Agrarian Alliance
, a non-profit organization dedicated to food sovereignty and regenerative agriculture. Her recent works, Farm Psychedelia I and Farm Psychedelia II honor the radical farmers of upstate New York who are innovating solutions to food insecurity, further bridging her artistic practice with her commitment to community and environmental stewardship.

How to raise multitudes of Milkweed and Monarchs. Great for Families! | Wakeman Town Farm
Jul 14, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Westport
Monarchs, the once plentiful beauties of yard and field, have suffered habitat loss so great that their numbers in recent years have dwindled to 10% of their peak population. They are called the ‘poster child’ for pollinator habitat protection, owing to their beauty and the remarkable feat of their annual migration to Mexico and back. Protecting Monarchs leads us to a wider awareness of the fragility of insect populations, the steady assault on their numbers through the indiscriminate use of pesticides, and the vital role that diverse native species play in keeping our planet healthy.
At this talk you’ll learn about how to attract a bevy of egg-laying Monarchs to your garden, how to raise the eggs into hungry Monarch caterpillars, and finally, healthy adult Monarchs, as well as some tips on how to grow a variety of different milkweed species to help them thrive.
Children and adults welcome.
About the Speaker:
Alice Ely, UConn Advanced Master Gardener and Master Composter, Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist, creator of multiple public and private Monarch Waystations in Westport CT, and Mother of Monarchs, raises these marvelous butterflies as a hobby and outreach tool. She knows the sense of wonder that these remarkable creatures inspire. Learning to protect them helps teach the importance of species diversity, the dangers of widespread pesticide/herbicide use, and the critical role our own backyards play in saving the planet.

Westport
The New York Times
has pinpointed a “feeling for a rugged but jaunty experimentalism” in the music of trombone veteran Joe Fiedler, a figure as esteemed in New York jazz circles as he is in the Afro-Caribbean and pop scenes. He’s an adventurous improviser and bandleader whose small-band outings include
Will Be Fire, The Crab
,
Sacred Chome Orb
,
Joe Fiedler Plays the Music of Albert Mangelsdorff
,
I’m In
and
Like, Strange
. His three releases by the unique low-brass unit Big Sackbut — a trombone/tuba corollary of sorts to the World Saxophone Quartet — have also cemented Fiedler’s reputation as a musical thinker with boundless imagination.
A Pittsburgh native and a New Yorker since 1993, Fiedler studied at Allegheny College and the University of Pittsburgh before launching into work as an in-demand sideman. He’s become one of the first-call trombonists in the world, featured on more than 100 recordings. He’s had extensive experience in the heart of the flowering big band scene, playing with Maria Schneider, Chico O’Farrill, the Mingus Big Band, Andrew Hill, Jason Lindner, Dafnis Prieto, Kenny Wheeler, Satoko Fujii, Miguel Zenón and many more. In smaller units he’s played with Lee Konitz, Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, Myra Melford, Matt Darriau’s Ballin’ the Jack, David Weiss’s Endangered Species and a host of others. Fiedler also paid years of dues on the salsa and Latin circuit with Celia Cruz, Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colon, Ralph Irizarry and other major acts. His pop credits include Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Wyclef Jean to name a few.
Downbeat
and others have noted Fiedler’s effortless way of traversing charged free improvisation and music of more established tonal and formal parameters — “out” vs. “in,” as jazz musicians sometimes call it. He’s apt to draw out long and lustrous melodic tones while also manipulating his trombone sound with multiphonics and other extended techniques (playing one note and singing a higher note, sometimes producing an overtone to complete a chord). The deep sense of blues, tailgate and other earlier jazz approaches to the horn come through in Fiedler’s music, as do the sonic innovations of Mangelsdorff, or the mainstream hard-bop aesthetics represented by Slide Hampton, J.J. Johnson, Steve Turre and so many more. Melding it all into a signature voice, Fiedler harnesses the top talents of dear friends and associates in an endless quest to broaden his instrument’s reach. As veteran journalist Dan Ouellette has written, “It takes a true believer in [the trombone’s] potential for jazz esprit to courageously explore its range of conversation. That’s why Joe Fiedler is so impressive.”
For the past fifteen years Fiedler has also served as “Music Director: Arrangements/Orchestrations” (working as composer, arranger, orchestrator and trombonist) for Sesame Street, garnering two Emmy nominations. Over fourteen seasons he has written hundreds of arrangements and crafted more than 10,000 underscoring cues.

Catherine Wolko
is a second-generation beekeeper and owner of both The Humble Bee Honey Company in Watertown and
The Hive @ The Pin
, a farm store and honey house located in the historic Pin Shops in Oakville, Connecticut. She is a listed speaker for the Federated Garden Clubs in Connecticut. She is also a member of the Back Yard Beekeepers Association, The American Beekeeping Federation, the Watertown Lions Club, and is a proud member of The Connecticut Farm Bureau. In addition, she is an advocate for the farming community and for beekeepers and volunteers at community food banks. She has spoken at libraries, churches, schools, symposiums, and land trusts throughout the state of Connecticut. Her father was an avid gardener and became a beekeeper by chance after responding to an advertisement for free bees. Her gift of gab and love for the outdoors and honeybees was her father’s gift to her — and now it's her gift to everyone she meets.
