The Golden Age of Crime Writing with Tom Mead (Wetherby bookshop) | Kemps On The Corner (Bookshop)
Jun 21, 2025 (UTC+1)
Wetherby
Join us for a scintillating evening discussing
all things golden-age of crime writing.
Tom Mead is the author of the Golden
Age-inspired Joseph Spector locked-room
mystery series, soon to be adapted for the
screen and will join us to discuss not only
his books, which play delightful homage to
his favourite authors from the golden-age,
but his long held fascination with crime
detection writing from the evocative
period between the world wars.
His enthusiasm is contagious and you will soon find yourself
immersed in the world of authors such as Agatha Christie and John
Dickson Carr; learn about their inspiration and how their works
have shaped others’ writing, including Tom’s. Tom is a particular
aficionado of the sub-genre of locked room mysteries,
a fact which is evident from his debut novel Death and the
Conjuror, which pays a witty tribute to them.
Tom will be signing copies of his books after the event.

Inspired by an infamous real-life case,
The Mourning Necklace is the unforgettable new
feminist historical novel from the Women’s
Prize-longlisted author of The Maiden and
The King’s Witches, Kate Foster.
1724. In a tavern just outside Edinburgh, Maggie Dickson’s
family drown their sorrows, mourning her death yet relieved
she is gone. Shame haunts them. Hanged for the murder of her
newborn child, passers-by avert their eyes from her cheap coffin
on its rickety cart.
But as her family pray her soul rests in peace,
a figure appears at the door.
