Wellbeing for the people profession and branch annual meeting | The Hive
Jun 5, 2025 (UTC+1)
Worcester
Chris –
Mindfulness. Chris will be discussing how mindfulness has helped him at work, and how the right culture can help the workplace. Having worked in business as a Director and being responsible for the running of the business he realised how hard it was to create a sustainable culture of safety for employees to be vulnerable about their mental health and wellbeing. The passion and experience he has had for creating a safe culture that embraced mental health and wellbeing was something he wanted to bring to other companies. So The Business of Mindfulness was born.
Chris will share tips, and tools for being mindful and looking after our health and wellbeing, as well as exploring ways in which companies can help support their employees.
Sarah (Sasi) –
Confidence. Her own experiences as well as through her connections, Sarah sees and hears so many stories about the pressures and struggles of People professionals. Depleted resilience levels, and feelings of burnout are at an all-time high, which is leading to some of us feeling chronic stress, exhaustion and compassion fatigue, and falling out of love with the People profession altogether.
Sarah believes wholeheartedly that low self-doubt, prolonged low confidence, self-belief, mental illness and burnout can be prevented. She will be discuss her journey through low confidence and mental unwellness, some tips to build confidence, the support available for People professionals, including The HR Confidence Club, a community of shared coping, reassurance, building of confidence, mutual respect, support, kindness, joy, fun, engagement, and networking.
Alan
– Raising awareness of burnout, and his personal experiences of the burnout ladder of which his book is based upon. Alan shares his views on why workplace burnout is a growing pandemic, and how the pressure on people is ever increasing. With longer hours and an inability to switch off in this ‘never off’ culture drives chronic stress.
Alan will share the early stages and symptoms of burnout, and if you feel like you are burning out, don’t despair- it is entirely possible to reclaim work-life balance and thrive in an increasingly chaotic workplace.
The Burnout Ladder® offers a new perspective on understanding the progression of burnout, and provides your roadmap to recovery. This structured programme provides insight into what stage you are at, recovery strategies, tools and support to help you regain your vitality.
Guest speakers profiles:
Chris Hopkirk:
Originally a Sales & Marketing Director involved in various SME businesses, Chris was first attracted to mindfulness to help him deal with the anxiety and stress of running a business.
Mindfulness enabled him to become aware of his reactive behaviours and by working mindfully he was able to bring an equanimity to his day-to-day engagement and ultimately was able to introduce it to his staff.
Due to this engagement, Chris saw that he could introduce mindfulness & mental health first aid into other businesses.
Ultimately he wanted to help the owners, directors, managers, and staff become happier and more engaged. This then developed into supporting companies with a sustainable mental health and wellbeing strategy.
The introduction of these strategies results in a more successful outcome for everyone, both in their business or in their personal lives
Chris is an accredited Breathworks Teacher & First Aid for Mental Health instructor.

Sarah (Sasi) Venables
Sarah (Sasi) Venables is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and CIPD Branch Chair for Hereford and Worcester. She is the Founder of The HR Confidence Club and works full time at the University of Worcester.
Sasi is an highly accomplished People and Culture Specialist with over 20 years’ experience. Her people centered approach focusing on empathy, compassion and kindness helps her to achieve many benefits fr both the employee and the company. Often sought out to be a sounding board, due to her supportive and non-judgmental style, which often enables Sarah to resolve queries, concerns and conflict satisfactorily.
Alan Muskett:
Alan Muskett lives in the rural county of Worcestershire. Having been a people manager for over 30 years, he has been passionate about helping people all my working life, but have only recently decided to make it a full time job.
It was about 10 years ago that he started to feel some real anxiety at work, feeling the pressure of the job and the need to perform and keep delivering. He started to doubt himself, lose sleep worrying about it (mostly unnecessarily), and panic about going to meetings and speaking in front of people - all things he had always done with very little problem.
Alan then Googled a solution and came across mindfulness - which back then he had never heard of. He took an online meditation course and almost immediately found benefits - sleeping better, he had a sense of presence and calm, and seemed to be better at not reacting badly to events.
His research led on to writing a book – The Burnout Ladder and shares the various stages, the symptoms, and tools to tackle burnout.

Speed Dating in Worcester for 20s & 30s | All Bar One Worcester
Jun 11, 2025 (UTC+1)
Worcester
How Speed Dating Works in Worcester
When you arrive at the Worcester for venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date.
You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't.
At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day.
Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches.
Post Event
No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We guarantee you will find someone you will want to see again, otherwise we will give you your next

2024 Stocktonian of the Year | Stockton Golf and Country Club
Jun 20, 2025 (UTC-7)
Stockton on Teme
The Central Valley Association of REALTORS® (CVAR) and The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce honor a local citizen each year as the “Stocktonian of the Year” and the 2024
recipient Tino Adame will join the ranks as the 71st “Stocktonian”. The Stocktonian of the
Year Award honors those individuals who embody the spirit of volunteerism and who have
conscientiously served and positively impacted the community. This program strives to
recognize those who are making a difference in our City and who do not typically seek or
receive recognition for their efforts. The “Stocktonian of the Year” recognizes an individual for their acts of goodness, extensive community involvement and continual devotion to the
betterment of Stockton, outside of their paid positions. Tino will be honored at a banquet
later in 2025. Banquet date to be announced in early 2025
Tino Adame has demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to improving
the lives of others in the Stockton community through a variety of impactful initiatives
aimed at supporting veterans and their families. His advocacy and tireless efforts
have been instrumental in ensuring that the needs of veterans are recognized and
addressed within the community.
One of Tino's most significant achievements is his role in advocating for the
establishment of a new Veterans Administration facility in San Joaquin County. This
facility provides essential medical and mental health services to local veterans,
allowing them to receive care close to home. Tino’s persistence in rallying community
support and engaging with elected officials has been crucial in securing the resources
necessary for this project. His tireless efforts reflect a deep understanding of the
challenges veterans face and a proactive approach toward finding solutions.
In addition to the new VA facility, Tino has been a strong proponent for developing
veteran housing and resources. Recognizing that many veterans struggle with
homelessness and inadequate housing, he has worked diligently to ensure that
veterans have access to safe and affordable living conditions. His commitment to this
cause has helped create a supportive environment for veterans transitioning back into
civilian life, enabling them to regain their independence and dignity.
Tino has also taken the initiative to rally support for veterans from various elected
officials and leaders within the community. By forging strong relationships and
fostering collaboration among local stakeholders, he has been able to amplify the
message that supporting veterans is a community responsibility. His advocacy work
has not only raised awareness about veteran issues but has also mobilized resources
and services to meet those needs, ensuring that veterans are not forgotten.
Through community events and programs, Tino has continually engaged the public in
discussions about the sacrifices of veterans, seeking to educate and inspire others to
take action. His leadership in organizing parades and recognition ceremonies has
helped to honor veterans' contributions while simultaneously fostering a greater sense
of community pride and support for those who have served.
Furthermore, Tino’s efforts extend into direct mentoring and support for individual
veterans, helping them navigate the complexities of transitioning to civilian life. By
offering guidance and connecting veterans with necessary resources, he has made a
significant positive impact on the lives of many, demonstrating a deep empathy and
understanding of their unique challenges. In summary, Tino Adame’s exceptional
commitment and dedication to improving the lives of others in the Stockton
community are evident in his advocacy for the new Veterans Administration facility,
his push for veteran housing and resources, and his ability to rally support from
community leaders and elected officials. Through his unwavering efforts, Tino has
created a lasting legacy of support and empowerment for the veteran community,
exemplifying the true spirit of service and dedication.
Tino Adame's drive to dedicate his time, resources, and efforts toward improving the
lives of others and his community stems from the Marine Corps ethos, a strong sense
of duty to God and country, and a heartfelt desire to uplift those around him. His
exemplary service commitment, leadership, and compassion make him a remarkable
candidate for recognition. Tino’s profound impact on the Stockton community serves
as a shining example of how one individual can make a transformative difference
