The Okaloosa Bar Association is excited to bring you Former US Senator Doug Jones as our guest speaker for this year's Law Day celebration! The OBA Board will also present our T. Patterson Maney Service Award as well as the Liberty Bell Award during the celebration. Former Senator Jones will speak on this year's American Bar Association theme: "The Constitution's Promise, out of may, one." The Constitution enshrines our collective responsibility to one another, and the 2025 Law Day theme urges us to take pride in a Constitution that bridges our differences to bring us together as a united nation. Our civic lives tie us together as one “We,” whether through legislative efforts that serve the common good, through military service, or by working together, every day, to uphold the Constitution. As ABA President Bill Bay remarked, the Preamble to the Constitution was established on behalf of "We the People" to form a more perfect union highlighting our shared responsibilities under the Constitution and democratic norms that unite us as one citizenry. He urges pride in the 2025 Law Day theme, which celebrates how the Constitution bridges our differences and fosters unity through civic duties like government service and community programs. Tired of the people who fill your timeline with photos at 6 a.m. of them working out, prepping to run a 5K? Us too. Join us for our 8th Annual East Pass Slacker 0.5K, specifically for those "underachievers" who enjoy cold beer and the shortest walk possible. All proceeds will benefit Road Dogg animal rescue. Registration table opens at 8am on Saturday, May 24 at the Boathouse Oyster Bar. Get checked in and grab a bloody mary to kick things off right. A shotgun start at 10am will send participants to a variety of stops to participate in drinking activities and raffles. BEST COSTUME AWARD will be awarded-- So bring your A-Game outfit! Complete all stops and the winner will be a random race number drawn. Cost is $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Participants will receive: - A standard race "number" to be worn during the race - A sweet participation medal - T-Shirt - 2 Drink tickets - Koozie Awards ceremony to follow. If you are too big of a slacker to participate, our observer ticket also includes the drink tickets and a T-shirt, where you can offer your moral support.Come out, show your support, and exert as little energy as possible while maintaining your buzz.
