Nightjar Walk - Greenham Common, Friday 20 June | Greenham Common Pyle Hill car park
Jun 20, 2025 (UTC+1)
Thatcham
Join the Wardens for a late evening walk on Greenham Common to witness the strange and wonderful night time antics of the elusive and enigmatic nightjar birds. As it gets dark the birds wake up and begin their courtship displays – churring, wing clapping and ‘gwipping’. We can’t guarantee that we will see/hear them but we stand a very good chance.
Open to all, but participants must be able to keep quiet so as not to disturb these birds. There will be a short (10-15 minute) walk from the carpark to the heath along concrete and gravel paths.
Bring torches and binoculars. We would suggest wearing dark coloured clothing as this gives a better chance of seeing and hearing the birds.

We are branching out this month and taking a look at a different type of flying creature. Butterflies.
This is a celebration of UK butterflies: large and small, well-known and less familiar, but almost all declining in numbers. There’ll be top tips on identification, and about how we can help them.
