Reet Good Wood CIC is a creative group specifically for Neurodivergent adults who have had a late diagnosis, are waiting for a diagnosis or are not seeking one but identify as being neurodivergent. For people who have 'managed' to get through life without any kind of support - this space is for you. Unfortunately we do not meet criteria for formal support but being around other people like you is massively important. Ruth, who runs Reet Good Wood, offers this workshop at her studio on Floor 5 of Spinners Mill in Leigh Ruth says... "Being Neurodivergent has many challenges. It can be quite isolating at times and some people often feel misunderstood, like they don’t ’fit in’ and can struggle to thrive in a world suited to neurotypical people. Last year I found my calm in the chaos that goes on in my brain as a neurodivergent adult. I found this sense of calm by Upcycling furniture and making handmade gifts. It gave me an outlet and massively improved my mental health and emotional wellbeing. So, I thought, why not share it with other Neurodivergent adults!? There is very little support out there when you're waiting for a diagnosis and very little afterwards, and although some people might not need it, for others being around other neurodivergent people can help massively. It can give a sense of belonging, provide a safe space to be your authentic self, in a space where you don’t have to worry about being judged or mistreated." In this session you get to have a go at an activity we feel is really beneficial to our health. We have a huge workshop, wood to make things from, paints, tools and space to share. By offering a workshop at a weekend it means the building is quiet, and we can create more bespoke working and teaching experiences. We're asking for a £10 ticket contribution to cover the operational and material costs incurred. This workshop is for adults of any gender identity, who consider themselves to be neurodivergent. You do need to be able to work independently as you will be expected to be able to work unsupervised at times, to keep yourself safe and to be able to follow instructions about the use of power tools and saws. We will be making wall mountable bottle openers from reclaimed wood or you will have the option to make a rustic coat hook if you prefer. This will involve cutting your chosen piece of wood, sanding, painting a design and adding hardware from our selection of knobs, fixtures and fittings. Group size is limited to 6 places. Demand for these sessions is quite high so if you can not make it please cancel your booking in advance to allow other people to book. If you want a video or any more information about the workshop space, or want to visit first - that can be arranged. Drinks, biscuits and great company all included. These sessions are located in a workshop environment so please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty / paint on. Please arrive on time to start at 11:30am. Reet Good Wood is a creative space for late diagnosed Neurodivergent Adults, those awaiting diagnosis or those who self identify as being neurodivergent. There is a distinct lack of long term peer support for adults who are diagnosed later in life. Our sessions are for people who want to come together with other people like them. We got fed up of being sent to counselling and CBT, when all we really needed was just to be around people who'get it.' So, this space is for us! To meet others, to vent, to be our authentic selves and to just hang out, without being made to feel like there's 'something wrong' with us. In this session we will provide classic board games, playing cards, jigsaws and dominoes for you to use / play. All you need to do is book and turn up. Chat amongst yourselves if you want to, or sit with headphones on if you don't. Absolutely no pressure. Just come and play games with other neurodivergent adults. It's really chilled and a great friendly, supportive atmosphere. Soft drinks, loads of Tea and Coffee, and snacks are all included. Please bring your own if you have any special dietary requirements. We ask for a £3 contribution for this session to help towards our operational costs. If you do book on and can't make it for any reason, please let us know in advance - we sometimes have people who don't turn up without letting us know, and because we are also neurodivergent, this causes some anxiety. Plus, if you can't make it, we can always open your space up to someone else who is waiting for a ticket - Yes, we're that popular ;) Thank you, and hope to see you there. (Happy to challenge anyone to a game of Connect 4!) Information Source: Reet Good Wood CIC | eventbrite
