Summer Family Pond Dipping at Tyland Barn | Tyland Barn
Jul 25, 2025 (UTC+1)
Maidstone
Come and have a go at pond dipping in Tyland Barn's ponds.
Kent Wildlife Trust's education team will show you the best techniques for pond dipping, making sure we don't disturb any of the pond's residents, before you have a go yourself. What will you discover under the surface? We'll look for clues to help us identify the different species in your pond dipping bowls, and find out some fascinating facts about the creatures you've found before safely returning them to the pond.
We'll provide all the equipment you need, please dress appropriately for the weather as the session will be outdoors.
£16 tickets are for one pond dipping bowl, which can be shared by one adult and up to four children, or two adults and up to three children. Bring a friend to share your bowl with!
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Each pond dipping session lasts 1.5 hours. You may find younger children are ready to finish much quicker, the activity is flexible so you can stay for as long as your group would like during the session you have booked.

Wildflower Identification for Intermediates | Tyland Barn
Jul 5, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Maidstone
This two-day course is designed for those who are familiar with several wildflowers but struggle with using a botanical key toidentify unfamiliar species or species of notoriously ‘difficult’ families.
We shall spend some time in the classroom, covering the terms for features used in the Botanical keys for these ‘harder’ groupsof plants. We shall then oscillate between classroom and outdoors working as a group (or in pairs under supervision) on keyingout examples of the more challenging species.
So as to be useful to participants, we shall cover as wide a variety of types as possible and will avoid spending time fretting oversub-species and hybrids. But we hope that by the end of this course that you will feel confident in using a botanical key fortackling the identification of ANY ‘new’ species.
Please note that this course is for intermediates and not beginners. If you are unsure whether or not you qualify as a beginner, we strongly recommend that you start with our Beginners' Guide to Wildflower Identification on 31 May.
Participants who join this course will already be familiar with the basic botanical terms for describing plants but have becomeconfused when these are applied to atypical families, such as the Grasses, Sedges, Daisies, Docks and Goosefoots. Similarly, they may not have grasped the specific terminology associated with these atypical families.
By the end of the course it is expected that you will have gained:
A working knowledge of a wide range of relevant botanical terms
An deeper insight into flowering plant classification
Greater confidence in using scientific keys to Identification, notably of the ‘difficult’ groups of flowering plants
Led by Ros Bennett, Botanist
Suitable for improvers who might be familiar with several plant species and basic botanical terms, but who have becomeconfused when trying to use a key to the identification of especially the more difficult groups of flowering plants. This coursefollows on from our Beginner's Guide to Wildflower Identification course on 31 May.

Maidstone, Kent - Simply Business Club Face to Face Networking | ORIDA Hotels Maidstone
Jul 24, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Maidstone
Simply Business Club is pleased to present you with the opportunity to experience our unique brand of business networking #ConversationalNetworking. No pressure during your turn, just conversation, tell us what you do, how you do it and how we can help and then we open up to the room to discuss, perhaps some questions or testimonials and that might spark a conversation about someones experience or it might give someone an idea.
Each attendee is given 3-4 minutes which means the pressure is not all about getting everything into a 60 second pitch (we may, at times, need to restrict each person to a maximum of 2 questions after their pitch, this will be based on number of attendees, if there is time at the end we can then return to any questions that were not asked)
We will start the meeting at 7.15am sitting down for breakfast at 7.30am with updates from the club followed by everyone telling us about themselves. We will be wrapped up by 9.30am so people can get on with their schedule full of their positive start to the day.
