The National New Fireworks Competition, which was canceled and postponed in 2019, will be renamed the National New Fireworks Challenge Cup 2025 and will be held in a decentralized format for the first time in six years. Twenty fireworks artists selected from across the country will compete in four preliminary rounds in September, and the first place and the highest-ranked second place in each round will participate in the finals in October. Fireworks artists will not be restricted by traditional techniques, but will compete based on the image in their hearts (i.e., "comments") to finally determine the 2025 champion. This year's theme is "Colorful". The highlight of the event is the highly artistic new fireworks created by fireworks enthusiasts from all over the country. They use original ideas and unique techniques that go beyond traditional frameworks to compete with each other on Lake Suwa, one of the best places in Japan for setting off and viewing fireworks.
