PLEASE NOTE TICKETS FOR ALL EVENTS ARE NOW BOOKABLE DIRECTLY THROUGH OUR WEBSITE. CLICK HERE TO VISIT WEBSITE AND BOOK TODAY! During this 1.5 hour lesson we will be learning about the art of Kokedama, starting with making our own bonsai soil. Once we have mixed the different substrates we will work with moss and our plant to make a moss wrapped plant base. We will be learning how to make a simple macrame hanger made from twine Whats included? Refreshments, a medium sized plant and all materials. If the workshop is for a gift we recommend you buy a gift voucher from our website or in store so the benefactor can redeem at their leisure. You can cancel for a full refund up to 7 days before the event. Please do so via Eventbrite. If you have to cancel within 7 days for ANY reason, then we will try and re-sell your tickets. If they do not sell, then we will be unable to book you onto another workshop or issue a refund. We know this sounds harsh, but unfortunately we are a small business, we will have bought fresh materials for the workshop and they will simply go to waste if you are unable to attend. However we do have a brilliant solution - which is that we would be happy to make you up a kokedama that you would have made for you to collect at your leisure! OR we can provide you with all the materials and lend you the tools for you to create your own kokedama at home, so you will not miss out. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop at any time. In this case you will be issued a full refund or offered another workshop time. Information Source: Between Two Thorns | eventbrite

The traditional stereotype of the witch as an ugly old woman who harms others using supernatural means has a strong hold within the popular imagination, but in modern society other types of witches have emerged, including those who use supernatural means to benefit others, those who follow a nature-based neo-pagan religion, and those who resist the imposition of patriarchal structures and hierarchies. From among this complex environment of different understandings of witchcraft emerged Modern Pagan Witchcraft, also known as Wicca, in the 1950s. It has been described as one of the fastest growing religions in Western civilisation and it is the only religion that Britain has given to the world. Social media channels abound with specialised groups for witchcraft and Wicca, with numbers measuring in the millions for Facebook and Instagram, and in the billions for views on TikTok. Most YouTube videos relating to Wicca have hundreds of thousands of views, ranging from guides for beginners to advanced discussions. But is it just a trend? Or is there more to the modern revival of witchcraft? Join Dr Phillips in this enchanting talk to examine beliefs about witchcraft from the witch trials of medieval Europe to its modern expression in the 21st century. Discover the key influencers from 19th century Britain who helped witchcraft endure from its shadowy past to emerge re-born into public awareness in the 1950s. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm - come down early to grab a good seat! Follow us on IG @seedtalks Dr Julia Phillips is Hon Senior Research Associate and lecturer at the University of Bristol.
