Join in on the fun and support local children in need at the 2023 Toys Fore Joy Turkey Shoot at Tunxis Country Club. This exciting event will take place on Saturday, November 11, starting at 9:30am with registration and a 10:30am shotgun start. The format for the tournament is a 4-Person Team Scramble. For just $180 per team ($45 per person), participants will enjoy 18 holes of golf with a cart, range balls before play, and the chance to win prizes. After the tournament, players can indulge in a complimentary draft beer, beverages, and a delicious buffet featuring Chef's famous Soup Bar. In addition to the entry fee, each player is required to bring a new, unwrapped toy with a minimum value of $15 as a donation to our annual toy drive. Our goal is to collect 1,000 toys to support local children in need during the holiday season. If you are unable to participate in the event, but still want to contribute, you can drop off toys at Tunxis Country Club between October 11 and November 12. Please note that registration and payment must be made in advance as a foursome. Tunxis Country Club is a non-metal spike golf course. The tournament fee is non-refundable, and the event will take place rain or shine, unless the course is deemed unplayable, in which case refunds or rain checks will be issued. The 17th Annual Oakland Dance Festival: 2023 is a highly anticipated event taking place on November 18th in Farmington, Michigan. This full-day festival offers a plethora of exciting opportunities for dancers of all ages and backgrounds. From inspiring master classes to performance evaluations and scholarship auditions, participants will have a chance to learn, showcase their talents, and network with industry professionals. The festival is open to private dance studios, high school dance programs, and individual students. It provides access to innovative master classes, on-site recruitment and scholarship auditions, various performance options, and two Showcase Concerts featuring college/university and professional dance companies. This year's event will feature performances by renowned professional dance companies on Friday, November 17th, as well as special performances by college dance companies on Saturday, November 18th. For aspiring dancers between the ages of 13-18, there will be a wide range of master classes to participate in, the opportunity to share choreographic works for feedback, and a chance to perform in the college showcase concert. Additionally, there will be live dance performances featuring college and professional dancers, as well as an exploration of dance opportunities in higher education. Current high school 10th-12th graders who aspire to major in dance or attend a summer dance intensive can take advantage of the on-site college recruitment and scholarship auditions. This unique experience allows dancers to be observed for priority entrance, awards, and scholarships. Many prestigious colleges, including Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan, and Wayne State University, have participated in the on-site scholarship audition in previous years. The festival also offers performance evaluations and feedback, providing dance groups with valuable insight and a head start on their competition/performance season. Solos, duets, and group dances of all styles are welcome, and a panel of distinguished artists from college/university and professional companies will provide constructive feedback. Selected groups and soloists will have the opportunity to perform in the evening College Showcase Concert. In addition to the various dance activities, there will also be a college fair where students and parents can speak with college recruiters and company directors. This is a great opportunity to gather information and do research on institutions that best fit educational needs.
