Dundee
Image: Jenny Downing A sea of troubles is perhaps all too familiar to most. In this very practical poetry workshop, we will create three very different poems, which will be written to help us wave rather than sink. This workshop will be suitable for those who write poetry on a regular basis, but also those who have no previous experience of writing creatively. All you need to bring to the workshop is a notebook and pen, and a willingness to participate in something different. Hopefully, you will leave with the interesting early forms of these three poems, and you will also take away some of the tools which will help you to edit and polish them. We will also share some suggestions about where you may decide to set your poems adrift at a later stage. Roll your sleeves up. Those waves will be amazing! Bookings will close on Friday 7th March at noon. Please book early to avoid disappointment. This event will be held in the Conference Room of Dundee Central Library in the Wellgate, Dundee, on Tuesday 11th March from 2-4pm. Beth McDonough studied Silversmithing at GSA, and taught Art for many years in various settings. She completed an M.Litt in Writing Practice and Study at Dundee University and was Writer in Residence at DCA 2014-16. Her poetry is in Gutter, The Interpreter’s House, Magma and elsewhere and is widely anthologised; she reviews in DURA regularly. Handfast (with Ruth Aylett, May 2016) charts family experiences – Aylett’s of dementia and McDonough’s of autism. Her solo pamphlet Lamping for Pickled Fish is published by 4Word, and a book of writings about swimming outdoors is scheduled to appear later in 2023.She was the 2022 Makar of the Federation of Writers (Scotland). If you disagree or are offended by what you hear, you are free to express this by not laughing, by leaving, or by respectfully raising your objections with the act after the show or via social media. You may not interrupt an on-going performance. · Audience members who repeatedly break these rules will be asked to leave.

City of Stories brings together speakers from all corners of the city to share their experiences, insights, and passions. Discover the stories that shape our vibrant cultural landscape. A Weather Eye exhibition looks at art inspired by the weather and highlights how artists use colour, form and technique to remind us of the physical qualities of weather as well as how it can provide a metaphor for our thoughts and feelings. In Scotland, the unpredictable weather has always directly affected the way we live our lives and this is reflected in our language. There are many Scots words to describe the weather and we have matched a number of these to works on display. The exhibition’s curator will talk about her inspiration behind the show, and highlight some of the wonderful works on display. A Weather Eye: Art Inspired by the Weather from Dundee’s Fine Art Collection is Free and runs until May 2025. For further details of the events, or if you encounter difficulties booking via Eventbrite, please call Central Library on 01382 431500. The Power of DragonSong - An Evolutionary Journey | Dalhousie Buildling 2G11 LT4
Apr 29, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dundee
Plucking the three strands of poetry and dancing the song of Amrun are indigenous medicine ways that are part of a ‘Celtic’ evolutionary journey. It will be a delight to share the power of DragonSong, in our tradition known as Amrun, and the importance of transmuting sorrow into authentic joy and peace. This multidimensional song that whistles through our hollow bones is part of our past, part of our present, and has the power to shape our future. Share in an empowering, entertaining and educational evening of heart. We are the people we have been waiting for, we are the children of the evolution. Now is our time to shine. It takes great courage to walk into the shadow and take our light there. Come and experience a journey of personal and planetary healing, that carries a song of hope for our world and all beings seen and unseen. Andrew Steed is an international shamanic teacher who has led 79 pilgrimages to the nemetons of these Isles, he has led the Wild Hunt for the last twenty years in 7 countries around the world and has written several books on his shamanic pathway and the Faerie world. Andrew has been self employed since 1996. Before this he travelled extensively, before emigrating Stateside for 17 years. He now lives back home in the Isles, in the Kingdom of Fife, hismatriarchal ancestral lands. In Andrew’s colourful story, he worked for several years with homeless people before going self employed, he has led hundreds of retreats and seminars in colleges, universities, schools, corporate and non-profit companies, as well as directly with community groups, not including individual one-on-one sessions. From shamanic teachings to cutting edge motivational seminars, wellness retreats, storytelling workshops, and team building conferences, Andrew has worked with thousands of people from children to elders and all ages in-between!
