The novella tells the story of a young man who, transformed overnight into a giant beetle-like insect, becomes an object of disgrace to his family, an outsider in his own home, a quintessentially alienated man. Read Kafka's harrowing—though absurdly comic—meditation on human feelings of inadequacy, guilt, and isolation, in the context of Jorge Satorre's new exhibition. Pencil on paper drawings depict a surreal scene of a large gathering of insects populating the Temple Bar Gallery + Studios exhibition space from the perspectives of internal CCTV cameras, the building’s exterior as a maquette, and an insects-eye view. The event will start with a brief tour of each exhibition, followed by a group discussion, led by Anna Maye and Sadbh O’Brien (TBG+S). The discussion will focus on the various shared concepts and thematic approaches between the artist and the author, and their effect on the reader. The space will be brightly lit with a large free hanging sculpture made from brambles hung across the street-facing windows. Seating will be provided.
