Details

Attend the upcoming Artist Talk: Bella Kim - Jokagbo Journey at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. Join exhibiting artist Bella Kim in a dialogue with June Sekiguchi, artist and arts activist, along with Jenna d'Anna, Senior Manager of Museum Education & Community Engagement. Explore Bella Kim's journey as a Korean diaspora artist and her current installation at BIMA’s Beacon Window Gallery. Discover how her unique tradition of “piece it, patch it” evolved from the concept of “common story” in Jokagbo textile work. Bella Kim's work is inspired by ecology and sustainability, using recycled materials like plastic mesh produce bags and aluminum snack packaging. Born in Korea, Bella Kim studied Fiber Art and Design, actively engaging with fiber artist groups and the Korean Craft Council. After relocating to the United States, she embraced a new art environment while working in an antique repair store. Bella Kim's exploration of diverse cultures and materials led her to discover her artistic interest, influenced by the resourceful practices of women in her family. Don't miss this opportunity to delve into Bella Kim's artistic journey and her significant contributions to the art community.
