The Joy of Dereliction by Marcus Patton - Marcus Patton will outline the work of Hearth, explaining why the buildings he cites in the book ‘Built to Last’ fell into disuse and what was involved in bringing them back to life. Included in his talk will be the story of the restoration of Portrush Town Hall, seen in the illustration above, painted by Marcus in 2000.
The Joy in Restoration By Dawson Stelfox - Conservation architect Dawson Stelfox tells of the challenges and rewards in helping owners bring buildings at risk back to life. He will discuss Hanna’s Close, St. Patrick’s School and Christ Church, showing how historic buildings can be successfully adapted for new uses whilst retaining their historic character.
Tickets are available through Eventbrite via the UAHS website and should be purchased in advance.

We were led by a big-bellied man, who took the middle staircase to the second floor. He asked us to introduce ourselves at the circular handrail in the middle. We were from all over the country, and most of us were foreigners. Then he led us to the parliament hall, which is where the parliamentarians usually hold meetings. There was a microphone at each seat. He then began to talk about the origin and function of this building, and spoke with great vigor. Everyone could sit anywhere, even the speaker&#39;s seat. After the introduction, he led us to visit other halls. The huge banquet hall was covered with thick and beautiful red carpet. I can&#39;t remember which hall was covered with blue carpet.

The streets of Herceg Novi are a bit deserted, unlike the old town of Kotor, where large cruise ships dock every day, bringing a large number of elderly European groups. But because there are fewer people, you can stroll around slowly and discover more beauty.
