Christine Platt and Catherine Wigginton Greene will be hosting a special event at Mrs. Dalloway's Bookstore in Berkeley, California on January 11th. The event will feature a reading, discussion, and book signing of their highly anticipated novel, "Rebecca, Not Becky." Drawing inspiration from the compelling narrative of "Such a Fun Age," this thought-provoking novel delves into the lives of two stay-at-home mothers—one white and one Black—in a seemingly idyllic suburban community. Against the backdrop of America's ongoing racial reckoning, the story explores themes of motherhood, friendship, and the true meaning of sisterhood. De'Andrea Whitman, her husband Malik, and their daughter Nina recently relocated to the predominantly white suburb of Rolling Hills, Virginia. Struggling to adjust to her new surroundings, De'Andrea's therapist challenges her to make a white friend, leading her to connect with Rebecca Myland. As they navigate the rising racial tensions in their community, De'Andrea and Rebecca discover common ground and shared experiences. Christine Platt, an author dedicated to portraying African diasporic experiences, and Catherine Wigginton Greene, a writer and filmmaker focused on fostering understanding and connection, will bring their unique perspectives to this event. Registration for this free event is encouraged due to limited seating. Please arrive between 6:45 and 7:00 PM. Please note that our restrooms are not accessible after 6:30 PM.
