Galongan and Kuningan are among Bali's most spiritual festivals, celebrating the triumph of dharma over adharma. These ten days of rituals and festivities are believed to mark the sacred time when ancestral spirits return to the human world to visit their descendants.
Galongan begins with "Penampahan," a day of preparation, during which households prepare offerings, cook traditional foods, and decorate their homes. Streets and entranceways are adorned with "Penjor" (bamboo poles)—tall, gracefully curved bamboo poles adorned with coconut leaves, fruit, flowers, and other symbolic offerings—symbolizing prosperity and gratitude.
During Galongan, families dress in their finery and visit temples to make offerings in honor of their ancestors. A highlight of the celebration is the Ngelawang ceremony, during which a barong—a mythical lion-like creature symbolizing goodness—travels through the villages. Accompanied by gamelan music, the Barong dance wards off evil spirits, bringing balance and protection to the home, and creating a joyful and mystical atmosphere. The Galungan and Kuningan festivals are powerful reminders of the Balinese people's reverence for family, ancestral heritage, and the eternal dance of good and evil. Experiencing these festivals allows visitors to witness not only the richness of tradition but also the enduring spiritual values ​​that permeate Balinese life.

Had an amazing paragliding experience with RIUG Paragliding. The staff were super friendly, professional, and made the whole adventure feel safe and fun. From the start, I was briefed thoroughly and provided with all necessary safety equipment. The flight itself gave breathtaking views of Bali&rsquo;s coastline and cliffs, and the pilot was skilled at making the journey exciting yet comfortable, especially helpful for anyone nervous about heights. Facilities are modern and comfortable, and they even provide GoPro videos so I could take home my aerial memories right away. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Bali and looking for a thrilling, scenic adventure!

Tanis Ferry Service departs from Mushroom Bay, a bit far off from the main street of Nusa Lembongan. We stayed at the northern part of Nusa Lembonga, near to the mangrove forest, so travelling to Mushroom Bay took about 30min by truck. Tanis ferry was smooth, fast and on time. It took merely 30-35min to reach Sanur from Mushroom Bay.
