The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore offers guided tours for PreK-12 students, providing an engaging and educational experience centered around the museum's extensive collection. These in-person tours allow students to explore the galleries and participate in discussions about art. Tour options include both docent-led and self-guided experiences. To reserve a docent-led tour for your school group, please complete the registration form provided. Guided tours last 75 minutes and are available on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., as well as Fridays at 10:00 a.m. It is important to note that tours require a minimum of ten students, with a maximum of 80, and one chaperone per group of ten students is required.

The Walters offers a variety of tour themes tailored to different grade levels. The "Ancient Cultures" tour is recommended for grades 2-12 and offers a comprehensive exploration of artifacts representing art, mythologies, culture, and daily life from around the world. Students will have the opportunity to delve into the ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Near East, Asia, and the Islamic World, as well as the ancient Americas.

For grades K-12, the "Telling Stories in Art" tour focuses on decoding and interpreting stories and themes expressed in works of art. Students will analyze narrative elements such as setting, character, and plot. The "Animals in Art" tour, recommended for PreK-3, explores how artists have depicted real and imaginary animals and habitats throughout history, while discussing the elements of art.

These guided tours are free of charge, and a voluntary contribution of $7 per student is welcomed to support the museum's educational programs for communities. Title I schools in Maryland may also be eligible for bus stipends to cover partial or full bus expenses. For more information about bus stipends, please contact tours@thewalters.org.
