OUTFOXED: Exhibition Preview by illustrator Rebecca Guthrie

Experience the captivating world of German fairy tales and French fables through the artistic lens of illustrator Rebecca Guthrie. In her latest exhibition, Guthrie delves into the profound influence animals have in shaping their own destiny. Against the backdrop of the current climate crisis, this thought-provoking showcase and accompanying artist book serve as a platform for dialogue and engagement with the non-human world. By reimagining familiar character archetypes, Guthrie challenges the binaries that perpetuate anthropocentrism. Her intention is to encourage a fresh perspective, enabling us to perceive animals as more than mere symbols of human virtues and vices.

This event is part of a larger program on multispecies storytelling, featuring a curated exhibition by Rebecca Guthrie, a commissioned artist book showcasing original interpretations of European folk animals, a captivating storytelling session led by a professional storyteller, a book launch and artist talk by Rebecca Guthrie herself, as well as a stimulating discussion with Erica Fudge, a prominent Animal Studies scholar from Strathclyde University, and dynamic media artist duo Hörner Antlfinger from the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.

Join us on December 7th, from 7pm to 8:30pm, at the prestigious Goethe-Institut Glasgow for the book launch and exhibition opening. This exclusive event presents an opportunity to meet the artist in person and acquire copies of her remarkable book.

Rebecca Guthrie, an accomplished illustrator and writer, splits her time between Glasgow and London. Her portfolio encompasses children's picture books, editorial illustration, and cartooning. Known for her vibrant and humorous style, Guthrie draws inspiration from renowned artists Alice Provensen, Richard Scarry, and Beatrice Alemagna. By blending traditional and digital mediums, she breathes life into her art. Guthrie's journey has taken her to Japan and immersed her in the film and TV industry, ultimately leading her to complete a Master's degree in Illustration at the esteemed Glasgow School of Art.

This is simply a dream castle. When I arrived, it was the April holiday, and there were almost no people on the road. Only the ancient buildings stood in the cold air, solemn and heavy, which made people feel awe.

We came here on a spontaneous visit one Sunday afternoon in January and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our wee boy loved seeing the &ldquo;old fashioned house&rdquo; and was so well looked after by all the staff, from the cash register to the flat and back out again.

We went round twice (with a shift change between visits!) and the insight into one story of no doubt thousands like it in Glasgow was fantastic. Plus our boy thoroughly enjoyed colouring in his wallie dug. A hidden gem that is well worth the wander through Garnethill.

This museum is a place where people have to punch in. I especially like the oil paintings in the museum. After seeing it, I feel a great enjoyment. The museum is also a favorite place for primary and secondary school students.

Glasgow Cathedral

It is said that it can be traced back to the famous William Conquest period. It was built to commemorate St. Diego. It took hundreds of years to build and has been around for nearly a thousand years. It is the oldest religious building in the entire Scottish region. It is also a must-see for tourists.

George Square

Peggy 

George Square is located in Glasgow city center and is very conveniently accessible by train or subway. On nice days, you can sunbathe and watch pigeons in the square. It is close to the famous shopping street, where you can buy souvenirs, clothes, shoes and socks. There are also many restaurants and eateries to choose from. 
George Square is a must-see attraction. In addition to admiring the architecture of the square;during different festivals, such as Christmas, the square is built into a Christmas Market, becoming a dynamic and happy atmosphere.
