We are excited to welcome Dan Richards to the shop to discuss OVERNIGHT: Journeys, Conversations and Stories After Dark. Dan will be in conversation with James Davis. About the book: There is something special about the night. For many, just the idea of it conjures thoughts of starlit skies, romance, refuge, of being tucked up in bed. For some, the night means fear, vulnerability, danger, sleeplessness. At night things go bump, monsters hide under beds, owls take wing and foxes prowl. For others still, nightfall signals the start of work. Overnight is a celebration of all things nocturnal, of those who labour while the rest of us sleep: the bakers, health workers, sailors, couriers, broadcasters, drivers, fishers, the emergency services and more. And it is also a hymn to nighttime wildlife, dreams and art. We'll hang out with bats and look at the stars. We'll learn what Moomintroll has to teach us. We'll travel by ship, train, racing car and foot. There will be more than one surprise along the way.
Through a series of personal journeys Dan Richards explores what the night means to a fascinating array of people, taking us from night terrors to the glow of watching the dawn break on the summer solstice. Overnight will change the way you think about the hours after dark. About the author: Dan Richards (@Dan_Zep) is a writer and broadcaster. His first book Holloway was a collaboration with Robert Macfarlane & Stanley Donwood in 2012. Since then he written four further books, The Beechwood Airship Interviews, Climbing Days, Outpost, and Overnight: Journeys, Conversations and Stories After Dark. His BBC Radio 4 series, Only After Dark, was broadcast to acclaim in 2022. Dan has written for the New York Times, Guardian, Economist, Esquire and Monocle. He lives in Edinburgh. The Bridge of Sighs (Oxford University, UK) is officially called Hertford Bridge. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. The construction of the Bridge of Sighs began in 1913 (completed in 1914). It crosses New College Road and connects the old and new parts of Hertford College. It is a famous attraction at Oxford University. It was designed by Sir Thomas Jackson. Because the bridge is similar to the Bridge of Sighs in Venice, Italy, it is called the Bridge of Sighs. I came to Oxford University with a tour group and could only take a quick look.

The Bodleian Library - University of Oxford is the main library of the University of Oxford. It is one of the oldest libraries in Europe (opened in 1602) and the second largest in the UK after the British Library. library. This is one of the 6 statutory libraries in the UK. There are many branches under the library, among which the Radcliffe Camera branch has become an important landmark of Oxford University.
