Join the Invisible Wounds Project in honoring and commemorating the life of Lino Lakes Police Officer Shawn Silvera, who tragically lost his life while on duty on September 6, 2005. The Shawn Silvera Memorial 5K, part of the Freedom Fest celebration, is a special event dedicated to raising funds for the Invisible Wounds Project. This local MN-based nonprofit offers therapy services and resources to support the mental health, PTSD, and suicide-related needs of Minnesota's military, first responders, frontline medical staff, corrections, dispatch, and their families.

Mark your calendars for September 23, 2023, and head to the Running Aces Casino, Hotel & Racetrack in Columbus, MN for this meaningful event. The 5K run/walk welcomes participants of all ages, promoting unity and support within the community. Early bird registration is available until April 30 for $25, with prices increasing to $30 from May 1 to May 31, $35 from June 1 to September 22, and $40 on the day of the event. Children under 18 can join in the race for $10 early bird pricing, $15 from May 1 to September 22, or $20 on the day of the event.

The Shawn Silvera Memorial 5K also features the Public Safety Challenge, offering departments the chance to compete against one another for the coveted traveling trophy. After the run, families can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day, including Touch A Truck, kids games/activities, vendors, food, and the Cruise For Heroes car/truck/bike cruise and show. Complete the day with a concert featuring country star Josh Turner.
