Join Melissa Beacom and Tara Embrey, two occupational therapists with 30 years-experience supporting post-secondary students, for an insightful and practical talk for parents of students with IEPs navigating this exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) transition.
Together, we'll explore the academic accommodation process in post-secondary education, introduce strategies to support the transition and help students through the ups and downs of their first year. We will talk about steps parents can take to help students prepare for the journey and will include lots of time for discussion and questions.
Meet Our Speakers: 
Melissa Beacom
 is an experienced occupational therapist and psychotherapist with over 20 years of specialized work as a university accessibility advisor, focusing on mental health, now working in the community. She brings a unique blend of clinical insight and practical strategies to support individuals facing challenges in work, school, or daily life—especially when mental health or ADHD is part of the picture. Melissa draws on her background in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and the holistic perspective of occupational therapy to help clients overcome perfectionism, manage avoidance, and boost motivation. Her approach is grounded, compassionate, and action-oriented—ideal for those who feel stuck or overwhelmed and are ready for change.
Tara Embrey
 is a dynamic occupational therapist and psychotherapist with extensive experience supporting individuals navigating mental health challenges and ADHD. With specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Tara helps clients find clarity, build resilience, and foster selfcompassion through the demands of parenting, work, and school. She offers practical, personalized strategies to sustain motivation, set healthy boundaries, and break free from the cycles of procrastination, perfectionism, and burnout. Known for her compassion, humor, and down-to-earth approach, Tara creates a supportive space that empowers meaningful, lasting change.
