Join us for a storytelling piece of Bill's tree story and listen to his struggles, experiences, and learnings growing up as an Indigenous person.
Tree Drum
 is told by Bill Beauregarde (Cree/Enoch.) It explores the personal life story
and experience of Indigenous theatre artist Bill Beauregarde, who was taken from his
family at the age of three. Bill shared the story with long-time friend and theatre artist,
Susanna Uchatius (Austrian/Eastern European), that at 9 years old, while in a group
home, the crab apple tree in the backyard repeatedly called to him. It wanted to be a
drum. So, Bill cut the tree down and made his first drum. This was the beginning of a
remarkable journey - an intuitive discovery of who he is.

Standing on the top of the park, you can see Bennaby city center and the mountains in the distance, and you can also see downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park and Lion Gate Bridge. The park is rich in vegetation, strolling through the forest paths, and you can smell the fresh pine forest. The park is famous for the Japanese sculptor Nuburi Toko and his son&#39;s creation of Kamui Mintara sculptures, symbolizing the harmony of human, animal, nature and God. The sculpture group consists of 29 hand-carved log pillars, engraved with animal images such as brown bears, owls, salmon and orcas.

If you are looking for a good place to relax around Vancouver, Deer Lake Park in Burnaby is definitely worth a visit! It is like a paradise in the city, with beautiful lakes and mountains.
There is a flat wooden boardwalk around the lake, which is perfect for walking, jogging, or enjoying nature with children and pets. The lake is sparkling, seagulls and mallards are playing in the water, and snow-capped mountains are looming in the distance. The park is free, the lawn is suitable for picnics, and kayaks can be rented on the lake. In spring, flowers are in full bloom, rhododendrons are particularly romantic, and outdoor concerts in summer are even more lively. Especially in autumn, Deer Lake is even more beautiful, and it is a great place to enjoy maple leaves around Vancouver. Parking at Deer Lake is also very convenient, highly recommended!
