Whale Tales 2025
 is heading to 
Belfast
 this November!
This much-loved event brings together IWDG members and anyone interested in whales, dolphins, and porpoises around Ireland for a weekend of shared stories, learning, and connection.
While we’re still finalising the full programme, there’s already plenty to get excited about!
Event Highlights
:
Friday, November 7 – Open Evening (Free & Open to All)
Hastings Europa Hotel
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
We’ll kick things off with an informal evening of stories from the water. It’s a great way to meet others, share experiences, and get into the Whale Tales spirit.
Saturday, November 8 – Members-Only Day
W5 at Titanic Quarter
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday is dedicated to our members, with a full day of talks, updates, and conversations. We’ll hear from IWDG officers, reflect on our work across the island, and enjoy thought-provoking sessions from 
guest speakers
 covering a range of marine-related topics.
Expect plenty of opportunities to engage, ask questions, and connect with others who share your interest in Ireland’s marine life. Lunch and light refreshments are included.
Sunday, November 9 – A Cultural Marine Connection
To round off the weekend, we’re planning a relaxed morning visit to the 
Ulster Museum
 to check out 
The Sea Around Us
 exhibition, followed by a casual farewell gathering. A lovely way to reflect and wrap up the weekend.
And for those who want to make the most of their time in Belfast, some of you might be interested in visiting the famous Titanic Exhibition nearby after the museum visit.

IWDG Non- Members Registration
(€70): Includes all the above, plus a one year IWDG membership. BUT we encourage you to purchase a membership first to avail of the discounted members' registration.

Diving into the history of how the titanic right from the beginning the experience really gives you a clear idea on how people lived and worked back then. The performance in the children&#39;s theater was wonderful, the plot was simple and easy to understand, the actors&#39; performances were lively and interesting, and there were interactive sessions. The children watched it with rapt attention, and after watching it, they were still not satisfied and kept talking about it!

The Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast

The Belfast Cathedral was founded in 1899 and completed in 1904. It is a Victorian church building. Although it may be relatively young compared to other historic churches, it is the most important church in this place.

We were led by a big-bellied man, who took the middle staircase to the second floor. He asked us to introduce ourselves at the circular handrail in the middle. We were from all over the country, and most of us were foreigners. Then he led us to the parliament hall, which is where the parliamentarians usually hold meetings. There was a microphone at each seat. He then began to talk about the origin and function of this building, and spoke with great vigor. Everyone could sit anywhere, even the speaker&#39;s seat. After the introduction, he led us to visit other halls. The huge banquet hall was covered with thick and beautiful red carpet. I can&#39;t remember which hall was covered with blue carpet.

The castle is situated in between a mountain and sea. Gardens in the surrounding are also stunning. Moreover, if you like trekking, this is an ideal location.
