We first discovered this gem three ago, and it’s been our go-to retreat ever since. Nestled in the peaceful countryside of Ainstable near Penrith, it feels like a secret slice of paradise every time we visit. We always opt for the dinner, bed, and breakfast rate — and honestly, the food is five-star plus. The standard is so exceptional, it could easily hold its own in the very heart of London. Every dish, from breakfast to dinner, is cooked with care, flair, and fresh, homemade quality. Breakfast in particular is a dream: plush, generous, and absolutely delicious. The rooms are equally impressive. Whether you choose a standard double or one of the more luxurious options, every detail is carefully thought out, making your stay both comfortable and memorable. It’s a true family-run business, and Damon, his parents, and Dave and the entire team are just heaven. Nothing is too much trouble, and their warmth and genuine care make us feel incredibly welcome — and, frankly, very humble each time we leave. They’re not open early in the week (usually Thursday to Sunday), and they host many weddings — and for good reason! The venue, scenery, and gardens are simply stunning. I can imagine no better backdrop for a special day. To Damon, his family, and all the staff: thank you for making every stay unforgettable. You’ve created something truly special here, and we’re so grateful we found you.

We stopped for one night at the Heather Glen whilst traveling up to Scotland. It is fairly easy to get to from the motorway and we had a lovely stay. The food was really good and served in the bar area for breakfast and dinner as we were with our pup and everything was excellent. The team on site were very friendly and helpful and we found this a great place to stop if traveling with a dog as easy to reach outside from the room and lots of walks nearby.

We stayed in The Retreat - a lovely little two bedroomed annex set apart from the main hotel. We were there for a family wedding in the hotel and this arrangement was ideal. Everything was built and maintained to a high standard, with the beds and bedding being particularly comfortable. Highly recommended either as part of an event or as a standalone holiday venue.

What a wonderful stay, a true hidden wee gem. Staff very friendly and our meals superb. A little off the beaten track but worth the journey! Many thanks for making my birthday special. We only stayed one night unfortunately but can’t wait to come back and stay longer and explore the area.

We took our friends here for Sunday lunch. The evnue was beautiful both in the surroundings of the village and also the dining room that looked out onto the ountryside. There was a good menu choice, although only one actual roast offering. The food was delicious and well served. The waiting staff were ftiendly and attentive.
