We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, food in the evening was good, room clean, bed comfy, continental breakfast laid out and plentiful. Yes, you do have to let yourself in and out the fire escape and there is no parking onsite but bakewell is notorious for that. I called ahead and was advised to use bridge street carpark which is family run, only a short walk away and allow overnight for £12. The red lion is a great location on the high street and has lots of character, it's a great place to stay

Ordered food and was told my allergy option was available but when food arrived it was wrong and when I pointed out the order was wrong I was told that they only did that option despite what the person who had taken the order had said , notices in the bar tell you to inform staff of any allergies which I did .I was given a refund. The time I waited for my food was 40 minutes and when I enquired was told they only had 1 chef on which would have been fine if I’d been informed of the waiting time when ordering … the staff need to be better trained on allergies as someone could have been made very ill

Well were to start....arrived to such a warm welcome from who we now know to be the landlord & landlady, Alex and Rachel. Alex carried our bags to our room and booked us a table for our evening meal. The room smelt so fresh and clean, lovely fluffy white towels and a chocolate nicely placed on them. We had a continental breakfast all laid out for us with ample coffee, tea etc. The bed was so comfy I didn't want to get up 😀 We had a superb meal, I had steak pie & my sister had gammon. All cooked perfectly and ample serving and reasonably priced. We then sat by a cosy roaring fire with a drink before bed. Will be coming back most definitely and recommend to everyone. Alex , Rachel and staff couldn't do enough for us.

Friendliest Staff in Bakewell. Good food, great night, will definitely be back again and again. Have lived in Bakewell for 5 years. This is now top of the list for a great night out for a special occasion. Thank you to Rachel & Alex who have only been running the Red Lion for 6 months. Would definitely recommend it.

I’d advise against staying if you are in anyway disabled. The bar closes at 9.45. & the only way to get to your room after this time is by climbing steep concrete & metal steps located through the beer garden. Then by using a code to enter the fire exit which was difficult to open. No booking out procedure. Had to leave key in door & exit (with luggage) down the same fire escape. Book parking before going as we had to park a quarter of a mile away. Absolutely no breakfast service. On a positive note the meals served in the evening were well cooked & quickly served.

Went this Sunday for a roast I couldn't praise this place enough, staff were so friendly it is breathtaking inside, and the food was delicious, next time you go to bakewell you must try this place, it didn't take long for food and they have an enviable choice on the menu, I think the owners have only recently taken over the running of the pub and judging your visit it will be wildly successful, Guinness was nice too

We came to Bakewell as a treat with my daughters (eldest is studying in Uni of Sheffield). We stopped into the Red Lion about 5pm to relax after a long journey (from Newcastle) and have some food. Having sat at a free table - we noticed that the staff had put a reserved sign (for 7pm) on our table - curiiusly without saying anything to us. It prompted us to order our food - At the bar I was told the set menu was only available Monday - Thursday (even though it did not say this on menu) and that it was only on the table for advertising purposes. I ordered anyway and the food wss average but tasty fayre when it arrived. We had finished our food and were arranging how we would get to our hotel which was about 30 mins walk away amd were ringing taxi firms. My issue starts when the (dark haired shorter) bar woman came up to our table at 6 30pm to tell us that we needed to leave our table immediately as the people who have reserved it have arrived early. A little shocked ny her abrupt request I noted their reservation was not till 7pm. To which she replied - and I get angry even now thinking about this- that she had 'allowed us' to sit at the table and order our food - if she had done us some sort of favour- and that now we had finished our food and our drinks (minute's before) that we needed to leave - now. That she was 'politely' asking us to either get another drink and sit in the bar or leave. There was NOTHING polite about how this woman approached us. I haven't felt so angry at such poor customer service in a long while. Red Lion I see others have complained about similar issues with your poor customer service. Please get your staff some training. I for one won't be coming back or recommending you.

Dog friendly pub in the centre of Bakewell. Varied menu that catered to our particular tastes. I can vouch for the battered halloumi with tartare sauce, it was delicious, especially after a cold morning out on the tops. Book ahead to guarantee a table, which we did. Trickiest part was finding a parking space.
