Markree Castle

From the moment you arrive you know you are gong to be looked after. Eoin on reception couldn’t do enough for you, very helpful. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, nice big bath in the bathroom, beds are comfy. The bar is very relaxing and the Guinness is tasty. Breakfast is amazing , Aoife, Molly and Brandon are fantastic waiters. The restaurant has lovely views over the garden. Two suggestion; 1. Guests shouldn’t be allowed to play snooker after a certain time ie: 11pm as other guests are sleeping or relaxing in their rooms. 2. Light bites or cheese boards should be available in the bar. ( not everyone wants to eat a full dinner menu). Highly recommended Markree Castle and we’ll be definitely back in the near future.

The most incredible wedding venue. Setting, food, and staff were amazing, with a big thanks to Emer and Eoin for helping us with everything. Accommodation on site is spectacular. Our guests had the best time and loved the intimate setting of the castle and the atmosphere.

The best wedding venue you could possibly have. The bedrooms are beautifully presented and comfortable,the views wonderful. Loads of fluffy white towels in the luxurious bathrooms. Lovely dinner on the first night. Such a beautiful setting, it's just like a fairy tale castle. The very best thing about Markree Castle though is the staff. Everyone of them was smiling, friendly and so helpful. Impeccable service throughout our stay and everything you could want provided. Thank you all for a memorable stay.

The most scenic setting for a stunning wedding weekend! Everything about the experience was memorable and beautiful. Our room was comfortable, with a great view and a large soaking tub. The staff were attentive and very kind throughout the weekend. The food was excellent!

We were organising our wedding from England, but Niamh - the bride - was born and raised in Sligo. She'd always hoped to get married at Markree. We had particular ideas about what we wanted but, given that we lived abroad, didn't want to organise things ourselves through lots of different suppliers etc. The great thing about getting married at Markree was that they could handle so much of this for us, meaning we had fewer separate things to do. We used lots of suppliers from Markree's recommended list, meaning that everything came together seamlessly on the day. And where there were specific requests we really wanted, Markree were able to make those happen for us. Ahead of the wedding, the Markree team were really helpful, responsive, accommodating and friendly - they were always an email away if we ever wanted to ask a question. The day itself was everything we'd hoped for. The Markree team did a great job, and all the guests loved the place - especially those that had rooms there. About half the guests came from overseas and all were blown away by an Irish wedding at Markree. We got married in November, and the beautiful castle, with open fires and candles, felt like the perfect autumn wedding setting. Food was one of the biggest considerations for us - and Markree did not disappoint in this area at all.

We had our wedding here and we had the best experience. They done there absolute best to accommodate us with all our requests. An amazing experience thank you to all. It was a special one. The food was delicious and even catered for the non alcoholics. Stunning rooms and decor is just beautiful. Ove ahead a lovely stay and we will be back for our anniversary.

I cannot say enough good things about how incredible hosting our destination wedding at Markree Castle was! We are from NJ and decided to host our wedding at a castle in Ireland because, why not! From the initial planning to the execution day-of, Deirdre and her team were a well-oiled machine! They made the entire planning process a breeze, far easier than I think it would have been in the states. Payments were simple and always accurate. Coordinating vendors was so simple because they all already knew Markree, and then the Markree team handled all the coordination of the set-up, and logistics – I didn’t need to be consulted at all. Day-of, the Markree team was always there and ready to help but was able to strike the perfect balance of being available but not interrupting the getting ready process or any of the festivities. They perfectly coordinated moving our guests from room to room, they brought out each phase of the food at the perfect time, they truly made our day as fun and stress-free as possible. And yes, the venue is JUST as incredible as all the photos on the website, if not better! It couldn’t have been a more perfect venue for our fairytale wedding! On top of all of that, the following morning my toddler niece got really sick and Deirdre not only instructed her parents on how to get to the hospital, but called ahead to let them know she had guests coming and packed up breakfast for them so they wouldn’t be starving all morning. The Markree team truly goes above and beyond in all aspects and I would highly recommend this venue to anyone considering hosting their wedding, whether it is a destination or not, in Ireland! We had the most perfect wedding, all thanks to the Markree team!

We had our wedding reception at Markree Castle in March 2022 and we simply cannot recommend the team and the venue enough. From our first meeting with Deirdre, a fantastic impression at the menu tasting event, right through until check-out the day after our wedding, the professionalism of the team and their attention to detail was second to none. The efficiency and support of Deidre and her team helped ease any of the stresses of planning our wedding and this was mirrored on the day itself by Nicholas and the team who looked after our guests and us all so well. We could not have been happier with the quality of the food and everything Markree Castle had to offer, highlighted time and time again by our guest’s compliments of the staff and venue. Celebrating our wedding at Markree Castle was more than we could have hoped for. We feel extremely fortunate that our guests and ourselves had the opportunity to enjoy such a magical experience, made possible by an exemplary team in exemplary surroundings. Rhona and Mike

A once in a lifetime experience staying in a castle for two nights. We were lucky our tour was able to book this fantastic location. The rooms were outstanding, large, very comfortable. The free standing bath tub was a very special touch. The castle grounds are beautiful, peaceful and quiet, a great place to relax. The castle offered all the character and atmosphere one would hope for in a castle. The staff were outstanding. My only disappointment was we did not meet the resident Irish Wolfhound dog.
