We had a lovely overnight stay between Christmas and new year. Despite the deluge! It was too wet to really explore the stunning countryside. But the warm log fire and a few beers were a very welcome alternative. Our room was lovely if compact with fresh milk and Chatsworth estate biscuits. It’s popular so even if you’re a resident book for dinner. We wanted something not festive and the food didn’t disappoint. Trout starter was fresh and zingy. Loved the mushroom main course and the chocolate cremeaux was historic. Like proper master chef cooking and beautifully presented. Mind you prices did reflect this. However service was maybe a little underwhelming. Lovely pleasant staff. But all very young with maybe not a lot of experience. There were a couple of drink mishaps and the dishes weren’t really explained to us. There were bells and whistles on the plate but we had to find our own way around. But it was still fab and I’d deffo go back Breakfast equally satisfying with plenty of fresh local produce.

We are just home from a one night stay last night with our family (who live all over the UK, so this is our annual get-together). Granted, we were a group of 11, so this could have been a challenge in such a small setting. However, it was not. The staff were polite, attentive, and really warming. One particular member of staff who served us our evening meal and breakfast this morning, was so lovely (I unfortunately did not catch her name, but understand she had a hearing impairment - not that you would know). She deserves recognition. She could not do enough for us. She was extremely sweet, apologetic if we had to ask for things, i.e., sauces or more tea, etc. She went out of her way to make our toast racks this morning, when we could have all done it individually and kept asking if we needed anything else. We were seated in a lovely little room to the right of the bar, where it was just enough to fit us on one long table, without any other guests around. This made it feel very personal. The breakfast was lovely with great portion sizes and cooked using quality meats. We would have all loved to have seen pineapple juice on the selection. You can also do a 'build your own breakfast.' Continental and menu included in breakfast price. Continental has lots of options available (fresh fruit, yoghurts, pan au chocolat, toast with several bread choices, juice, cereal, natural yoghurt, and fresh muesli. Allergies option available on request. Our evening meal was lovely. However, we were not asked how it was. That would have been nice as we would have been able to pass on compliments to the chef and a remark that everything was lovely. The pies were crammed full of lovely fillings (one of my family members ordered the Homity pie and would have liked more of the cheese flavouring to come through over the onion), yet there were no complaints across the table (other than one of our party who found the lamb from the 'A La Carte' menu was a smaller serving than he would have liked but this may be the intended size due to the menu it was on). We all discussed that the portion sizes of chips that come with the burgers and pies could have been a little more generous. The puddings were unreal. From homemade sticky toffee pudding with crisp caramel toppings, homemade custard to a lovely cheese board, and various other treats and coffee. We were all content. My husband particularly liked the choice of IPA and lots of various wine labels and gin were enjoyed between us. The rooms were very clean. Excellent quality towels, robes and products. The box of biscuits was a nice touch to the tea tray. It was a strange yet quirky experience for the whole group to be taken around the village (each a stones throw away from the restaurant), by various members of staff to our rooms upon check-in. Some of us in a large house opposite the pub, some in what looks like a Victorian school building and the others were upstairs above the restaurant. No complaints from the rooms,

We booked a three night Easter break to include breakfast and £37 each towards dinner. We arrived early and made the most of the excellent location from where we did circular walks every day. The welcome was warm and the room was clean and well appointed but with a rather mish mash decor. A bonus was the adjacent car parking space. Dinners were excellent as were the breakfasts and we enjoyed all of the beers and wines on offer. Not cheap but not too expensive either. The ingredients were well selected and we enjoyed relaxed meals. Our biggest let downs that it took until the last morning for our dog to be offered the advertised breakfast part of the £15 a day charge to take home and also the attitude of the staff when we asked for a table to enjoy lunch and drinks. There was a sign on the entrance door saying no tables available without prior reservation however I would not expect this to be the case in a hotel . We were told we would have to sit outside. I showed my displeasure and pointed out I have stayed all over the world and always been able to eat and drink on the premises and especially when spending £400 a day/night. Eventually we were told we could sit in the Malt area and we sat there for two hours without anyone sitting on two adjacent tables. This was clearly ridiculous and I wrote to the hotel and complained and explained the refusal spoiled our day and we received no response. On the next two days the staff who were all very pleasant made an effort to allow us to have drinks and clearly stated when the next guests with reservations would arrive. This was a big improvement. I have to wonder if there was a staff shortage… This was not our first stay at a Devonshire hotel and I will ask careful questions before I book again.

We had an excellent lunch today with some extended family. Great beer and food - I recommend the fish and chips - but more enjoyable was the service and ambience. Very warm welcome, and conscientious service from the staff, they even chased after us when we left with some toy cars my son had managed to leave behind. We were well looked after, and were given the space and time to have a lovely catch up.

Welcoming hotel, very impressed with the quality of our bedroom, well thought out and designed, good fluffy towels and robes. Ironing board /iron/hairdryer. Amazing bed and sheets, probably the best nights sleep we have ever had! Water and chatsworth biscuits a lovely touch. Staff very friendly and attentive, however clean aprons / smartening up of some staff needed for a higher end establishment. However dinner was amazing both nights we ate but would definitely recommend reservation as it does get busy. Had a fabulous time, nothing too much trouble.

We spent a couple of nights at the Devonshire Arms in Beeley & have to say it was first rate. The room wasn't overly large, but was well kept with a great ensuite. What made our stay so memorable was the quality of the food. The dinners were first rate & the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back & we don't say that about many places!!

We have stayed here in the past and so were looking forward to a relaxing evening and night. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed overall. We booked the dinner bed and breakfast in a suite. The room we were shown to was very tired and dated. The furniture in the bedroom and lounge was shabby and the bathroom was cramped and dated. The dinner started well with both starters being delicious. Unfortunately the main meal, we both had the rib eye steak which was an eye watering £36, was tough and mine in particular was very grisly. I only managed to eat about half of it and even that was hard going and not very tasty. When the waitress took the plates she obviously noted that I hadn’t eaten much so asked if the meal was okay at which point I said the steak was tough and grisly but unfortunately this comment fell on deaf ears. Ultimately on checking out we were charged an additional £21 as we went over the £37 per head allowance! Somewhat galling given I didn’t actually eat my main meal. The final issue was the noise in the room. We were in the main pub so unfortunately there was noise from the bar until late and then we were awoken just before 7am by staff cleaning and vacuuming the bar. Again I mentioned this when checking out to be told, oh that’s a shame. Overall the staff seem quite young and it’s clear there is a lack of focus on customer service. Given the price it should be much better! We won’t be back

We have eaten at this pub on a few occasions and had a really good experience but this time we were shown to a table in front of the door into the kitchen . The room itself was cold but also a cold breeze coming through the partially open kitchen door . We were also in front of the fireplace , which wasn’t being used . We had to eat our meal with our coats on . Plus our friend was just recovering from an illness, so we rushed through our meal to get back to the warmth of our holiday cottage . There were heaters scattered around the room . But they made no difference at all. Other diners came in and were asking to move tables but to be honest there were no warmer areas . I asked at the bar why the fire wasn’t lit, the reply from a young lad was he didn’t know . I told him we were cold and the fire should be lit to warm the area up , it never happened though. We were very uncomfortable and disappointed as the food wasn’t that warm either. We have a booking to go back in a couple of weeks time . Please let it be warmer in there as I don’t fancy sitting eating my meal in my coat again.

This is our 500th review and what a place we stayed. The hotel / Inn was recently flooded up to almost a foot. When we arrived we were greeted by the manager who despite all his recent problems made us feel right at home. Even though the carpet layers were finishing the entrance and bar area. We arrive at 11.30 to pick up our Chatsworth tickets, all included in our overnight price. When we got back at 6pm everything was all but finished. Our room was a Cottage opposite just across a quiet square. "Jasmine" it was called and it was beautiful. Immaculately clean. Comfy bed and excellent walk in shower. We headed back into the Inn at 7.30 to eat at 8. We ate in the brasserie as this is a dog free area as was our room. They do accommodate for both but we never saw any dogs. The food was excellent Goats cheese starter followed by Lamb Loin for me ( I am Gluten Free ) and a Beeley burger (rather large) for Jackie. A GF sticky pud to finish off. Kyle who served us was excellent as was the acting manager Stuart Bond who is the sommelier at the Cavendish in Baslow. He was helping out. Breakfast was lovely, full english if you want it and lots of other choices. This was well worth the price and we will certainly visit the Devonshire group hotels again.
