This was my fifth stay in a Meininger hotel so I knew what to expect, but this time I treated myself to a single room rather than a dormitory. The room itself was fine - basic but met expectations. Although I opted not to have the room serviced I noted someone had entered my room each day, even when I left the do not disturb sign on the door (once the shower mat was replaced, once the bin was emptied and on two occasions extra toilet roll was left, even though there were two rolls already). It seemed someone was making a point that they’d been in the room. There were three BIG negatives about this stay: 1. The noise … even with the window shut I could hear the train station announcements (in German and in English) 24/7 … yes, they went on all night. I asked for a quiet area when I checked in and got this. Thank goodness I brought some ear plugs. 2. The noise from other guests … lots of shouting and screaming apart from a quiet period between 8pm and 10pm. People shouting and banging doors at 3 and 4am and a man trying to get in my room at about 5pm (I opened the door and sent him on his way). The noise was too much for my ear plugs. 3. Being unable to get in and out of the front door in the mornings and evenings due to the huge number of inconsiderate people milling around, blocking the way in and out, even when I politely said “excuse me please”.
