Hotel la Prison

What an amazing place! When booking, I was slightly nervous, particularly given the hotel’s own description suggesting that some flexibility of mind was required. Actually, this is a very very good hotel in its own right. We stayed in a ‘Standard’ room with a double bed. The room was perfectly big enough for us with no sense of being cramped and the bed was excellent and of high quality, as were all of the fittings. Clearly, a great deal of thought and care has gone into this hotel. The interior manages to clearly convey its history as a prison and yet, at the same time, has the feel of a very good quality hotel. We were greeted be the most lovely and professional staff and made to feel very welcome immediately. The views and location are magical. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough whether for the experience of staying in such a remarkable building or for merely staying in an excellent hotel offering, what I consider to be, extraordinary value for money.

This place is truly a great "experience"! So fascinating to see the prison from the inside with all of the historic preservation blended with comfort and style. I would definitely recommend staying here, and would think about returning!

What a fantastic place to stay. Breakfast on the veranda overlooking Beziers while the Cathedral bells tolled....magical. Beds that were like clouds...inside in a cell. Quirky but attention to detail all round is impeccable. The effort and work that had gone into this hotel to keep it as original as possible is to be commended. Loved my stay.

A fledgling venture, recently opened in Jun 23 I believe, with potential. However, a number of the pieces are missing in this puzzle! Start with some positives; great location in the town centre, great views from the bar/restaurant, unique concept for a hotel. However there are several 'bits' that are missing from a good hotel experience! We enquired about parking prior to arrival and were given details of the public parking 10 mins away, nothing on the website. Given the historic location of the hotel, we understood the parking limitations but were annoyed not to be told the you could drive up to drop your luggage off! The reception was pleasant & helpful (unlike comments noted on other reviews). Many aspects of the room conversions were good, taking into account the physical limitations of the 'cells'. Bathrooms were smart but lacked a few finishing details (shower head too low, shower shelf, etc). Rooms were small which dictated the inconvenient 'one side along the wall, inconvenient for one pers to enter' situation. Wifi was good. No TV, aircon or fridge - maybe some technical & space issues here but should be highlighted on booked as people today reasonably expect this. Stunning views from the restaurant and bar, and a real feature of the hotel, BUT was shut Su & Mo when we were there! This is just not a fully functioning hotel!! The reception was able to provide a limited selection of drinks, incl chilled white wine, and we were able to watch le rugby in one of the reception rooms near the entrance - not quite sure what the purpose of this room was though! All-in-all, an interesting stay but query is not enough! The management & running of the hotel is not joined up right from the website through to the customer experience at the hotel. Success in getting the 'bugs' ironed out, but sadly we probably will not be returning.

The hotel had only been open a few months and so I'm assuming the issues are teething problems. It's an amazing place with incredibly tasteless art; but that's subjective, at least it's not the usual generic, bland prints you get in hotels. The best views in Beziers. The beds are amazing, fabulous thread count and super comfy. Same with the towels. And the rooms smell gorgeous. Excellent hair dryer and great coffee machine though only enough milk for one cup each (do you know you can get frothing milk pods?). This is spoilt somewhat by the snobby male receptionist, lack of toilet facility near the pool and general pool cleanliness (scum line and terrace that needed sweeping), though as I mentioned, hopefully these are teething problems. We didn't eat here as the bistro doesn't open on a Sunday evening though the menu is similar to what you can find nearby. We didn't have breakfast as we left too early. A great concept for an hotel, let down by the sneering attitude of the male receptionist. Cool can be inclusive and welcoming, please work on these.

This is a prison refurbished into a hotel and has only been opened for a few months, hence one or two understandable teething problems. We stayed for 5 days and opted for the deluxe room. It was spacious and had a huge, comfortable bed. The room was a little short of power points, but three sizeable windows kept it cool while daytime temperatures were touching 30C. Otherwise, the shower lacked an overhead holder which meant that the shower head needed to be held as I washed. The restaurant is lovely and serves good food in an ambient atmosphere. Unfortunately it only opens Wednesday to Sunday at present. I recommend the restaurant balcony which, in common with the pool area and rest of the hotel has breathtaking views. Highly recommended!

Unique place to stay. Not that much room in the bedroom - but it did use to be a prison cell, so no surprise! En-suite bathroom was good. Great location and good restaurant. Bar staff could be a bit friendlier, but reception and everyone else was great.
