Adventure off the beaten-path to discover the Upper Brazos Community, a vintage collection of cabins in the tall piney woods near Chama NM. The Getaway is a rustic A-Frame cabin built in 1964 as one of the original dwellings in the Upper Brazos. It was constructed with “mountain life” in mind utilizing durable finishes, a gas burning heater, a huge fireplace, and a sunroom that fills with glorious morning light and connects to a large covered porch that boasts the best views of the Brazos cliffs! The cabin has beautiful pine ceilings, an open kitchen with a farmhouse sink, walnut counters and industrial stools and a gathering table for meals by the fire. The primary suite downstairs offers a beautiful bedroom with view of the woods and an adjacent utility room and bathroom with a Saltillo tiled shower. Step up the winding staircase to explore the spacious Bunk-room with plenty of room to stretch out, play and rest.Recently the interiors were renovated to retain its original warmth & charm while updating the interior surfaces, fixtures, furnishings, and installing high speed internet. Now you can enjoy the wooded scenery from a stately Writer’s desk in the sunroom, the view of the cliffs from the upstairs loft “cuddle couch”, or relax into one of the big leather chairs in the living room to read a book or stream a new movie. The Getaway is a retreat, a refuge from the hustle & bustle, an invitation to slow down and reconnect with nature (while remaining as connected as necessary with free high-speed internet). Built at nearly 8,000 feet above sea level the cabin is nestled amongst tall evergreen trees with a deep set porch facing an acre of lush meadows cradled by surrounding mountains! The meadow provides abundant wildlife watching (deer, birds, fox, bunnies, prairie dogs, and occasionally bears) plus room to sprawl out in the sunshine or dance under the stars. Guests love the sunset views of the cliffs, listening to the afternoon rain on the porch’s metal roof, the sounds of the many birds, and the river flowing nearby. Are you feeling adventurous? It’s only a short hike to the Brazos Cliffs private community RIVER ACCESS area where you can lounge on its sandy banks and fish trout from its abundant waters. Guests appreciate how chill and unpopulated it is! Bring your outdoor gear, park your ATV’s or RV’s in our big circle drive, and sprawl out. Also, relax knowing we have strong internet & phone capabilities and for any medical concerns we are within the Chama, NM emergency response area. The Brazos Cliffs community is mostly inhabited by seasonal homeowners who grew up spending their Summers here with their grandparents who originally built in the sixties. It’s pretty quite in the Cliffs most of the year except for a few months in the Summer when you’ll occasionally hear ATV’s passing by, folks walking their dogs, laughter from an evening fish fry or the distant clanks of a game of horse shoes. For leisure at The Getaway you can wind down with a game of washers, clean your catch of the day at our outdoor fish-cleaning station, and prepare your meals in our thoughtfully appointed kitchen. Eat fireside indoors or indulge in outdoor dining on the covered porch where you’ll witness a phenomenal cascading sunset on the cliffs. The Getaway invites you to RELAX, RECHARGE, RECONNECT, and RE-WILD!Additional information: The Getaway cabin is located down a dirt road off the rural HWY 512 which runs into HWY 84 and offers a short drive (15 minutes) to the grocery store, restaurants, and the iconic passenger train in Chama, NM. Otherwise we’re about an hour South of Pagosa Springs, CO, about 1hour and 45 minutes to Taos, NM and 2 hours to Santa Fe. The kitchen has a big sink, dishwasher, stove with oven, and refrigerator. It is thoughtfully stocked with cooking, cleaning, and serving accoutrements including handmade ceramic dishes, baking pots & pans, a blender, mixer, microwave, toaster, tea kettle, coffee pot, and a stocked Nespresso machine for all our strong coffee lovers. The bathrooms are stocked with plush towels and gently scented moisturizing products and a first-aid medicine cabinet. The beds and fold outs are comfortably outfitted with quality, breathable bedding. The central area of the Bunk-room has a pair of twin beds and a futon, plus a small sturdy desk and plenty of carpeted area to stretch and play. There’s a half bath and a separate room on each end. The back room is set up as an office and is stocked with games, books, and drawing supplies. The front room has a comfy sofa and a window with a view of the whole one-acre property. This is a CONTACTLESS PROPERTY with a keyless entry (the door has a digital keypad for the bolt lock). If you have an extended stay (beyond a week) we will offer maid service to clean and restock your amenities.Whether it’s a short or long visit, we hope you love your stay at The Getaway!Side Note: Behind the cabin is a pottery workshop. It’s set back and out of view from the main Guest areas. Occasionally we need to throw pots while guests are enjoying the cabin. If so, we’ll never intrude or even be noticed. On the upside, if you’re interested in pottery and want to take a look at our process or finished works we’d be glad to show you around. *If you want a pottery throwing lesson or just an opportunity to play in clay, let us know and we can arrange that for a fee. (Activity fees are based on $60/hour.)About pets:No pets allowed, service animals permitted.Only well behaved animals.
