Taking the exit from the toll road to Viña Matetic hotel I felt a bit uneasy. A hotel that close to a busy highway? Will it be a sort of motel exposed to traffic noise? No need to worry - it turned out to be a green and calm paradise... First impression: A nice welcome chat in the reception building with a first glance at the Matetic wines in the adjacent showroom. A group of people on the terrace - apparently busy with wine tasting... Second impression: A nice walk through a wellkept garden full of blossoming flowers towards "La Casona". Entering through a hallway we passed a large "lounge" with a fireplace, a small library, nice art objects and a pool table. The rooms in the old U-shaped building are all named after a grape variety. Ours was the "Merlot" suite - spacious, dark colonial style furniture, two beds, patio in the back towards the vineyard, large bathroom... Third impression: A walk across the grounds - from a shed with old wine making equipment via the vegetable and herb garden to the little lake with a flock of geese and the Equilibrio restaurant where we had a quick late lunch in the "roundhouse", tasty and accompanied by the first glass of Matetic wine served to perfection. Excellent dinner, a good night's sleep, a varied buffet breakfast and then the interesting morning tour with Diego and Guillermo to the Matetic Estate. We were introduced to the basics of biodynamic wine production including the somewhat astonishing manuring of the soil... And we were shown into the Estate's sanctuary with oak casks and - wine cisterns made of concrete... The tour ended with a tasting of four wines on the wine shop terrace. After another night we left for Santiago. It was a most enjoyable stay...

We had a wonderful stay at Matetic winery. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were beautiful and very comfortable, and the meals were superb. We enjoyed the biking/hiking and the tour of the vineyards and property. We have been to many vineyards over the years, and found the wines we tasted during the tasting to be excellent!! We highly recommend visiting Matetic Vineyards!

The bedrooms are so spacious, comfortable and luxurious and the setting is just wonderful. The tour is incredibly interesting too - it was a 5 star experience! Oh - and the wines were stunning and the staff all superb. It was the last part of a 2 week tour of Chile and was the perfect ending. I wish we could have stayed longer.

It could have been so good. As a resident checking in, we had a foretaste of what was to come with a giant coach bringing daytrippers to the shop (where you also check in). Had to choose dinner choices there and then, off a limited menu (3 different dishes). Room was old school pleasant. Soundproofing on the light side. Was presumptuously told how to tip at end of trip, on way to room. Even the room welcome note was anonymous so as able to reuse - “Dear -“ !! Tour good to a well rehe****d formula, enlightening, limited access to winery, guide delivered well. Back for tasting amidst throng of day guests. Grounds maintained ok. Not UAE pristine (nor should they be) but still a little ‘end of season’. Dinner was a total fail. Faded glory outdoor-activity-centre-type-conservatory restaurant set up for group trips, next to an awful green pond. Felt grubby and the server was extremely brusque. Food really poor; congealed sauces and reheated meat. Had to wait for another meal to be cooked. By comparison, the restaurant on site at the brilliant Casa Marin vineyard, 10 minutes away felt positively Michelin starred by way of comparison. Also, wines all had a similar ‘interfering’ aroma on the nose that we finally were able to identify as the pine like cleaning fluid dispensed on to the floor in industrial volume by one person, whilst another mopped. $79 for the top end Syrah in the shop. $99 in the roadside-type restaurant. Should have bought it their shop and paid the $6 corkage. Breakfast choice as you would expect. But again, 20 or so day guests arrived at 8.30am rather changing the dynamic. No exclusivity of experience given to residents, even though there is at least one other area in the 'roadside diner' restaurant that could be used for visitors. There is a lovely drawing room/outbuilding by the 10 roomed courtyard which should be used for breakfast and check in. Needs a signpost around back of the shop by resident parking to enable this. Much higher quality feel there. An Awasi or Tierra it is definitely not in terms of staff service nor quality proposition. Pool hadn’t been netted to remove floating leaves and no towels out so didn’t feel particularly inviting. With a caring eye, it could be v good. But it’s not worth anywhere near the $835 for half board and tour. Don’t like to leave a mediocre review but felt seriously short changed and wouldn’t have stayed if had read a review like this. No mention either, that you need Chilean Pesos (no $ or cards accepted) for the tolls on way back to main Valpo Santiago highway. Caught us short as we were heading straight back to airport. They let us through eventually. Hope La Casona improves.

We had flown around Chile for two weeks and this was our last stop before flying back to London, UK. This was a fabulous boutique hotel, the staff could not have been more helpful, kind and welcoming! The reception area was beautifully made, bottled water offered, full explanation of our stay. Instantly relaxing. Our room was big, clean and nicely fitted out. Wonderful big shower in a huge bathroom. Either side of our room were covered walkways, with seats, overlooking this property. The gardener has real talent! A nice accompanied wine tour in a minibus, ending with tastings. Our guide, JP, was so knowledgeable and we enjoyed his full explanations to question. The round restaurant, set by a lake full of carp, was gorgeous as was the food and wine! A lovely experience not to be missed! We wish we had stayed two nights here, not just one!

Great place.. Very close to Santiago , food was vey very good and our room super confortable . The best breakfast . Most important of all is the staff , that make you feel at home..The hotel is a beautiful chilean "casa de campo" surrounded by many places to take long walks in the woods or see the vines. And of course for wine lovers , taste great wines. One of the members of my family is in wheel chair and we had absolutely no problem. Spacious bathroom and full access to all the premises of the hotel.

After travelling Sth America for close to 4 weeks our final destination was Hotel la Casona de vina Matetic, 1hr from Santiago . It was the best place to wind down before our flight back to Sydney. The staff were so friendly and accomodating and the food was “perfecto”. The winery/ vineyard tour with Yosthon and our driver Guillermo was so lovely and informative on how a winery is sustainable on natural symbiotic methods. It was a truly great experience. For any traveller heading home this is the best place to take in nature and reflect on your travels . Naturally the wine was superb. You will not be disappointed by this beautiful hotel and luxurious rooms. Adios Sth America with fond regards. Kevin

The rooms are at the hotel are all named after wines as opposed to numbers. The hotel is located in the winery and so is very spacious and surrounded by gardens. The wine tour we did was so informative - Justin our guide was so knowledgeable. We have done lots of wine tours over the years but we learnt so much new stuff. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

Tranquility with awesome wine and gourmet food. The biodiversity ethos is upheld in every way and makes this vineyard different from the others in a positive way. The staff are particularly customer focused, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A shout out to the manager Alfredo who went the extra mile to ensure our comfort. Thank you Matetic, we wish you continued success.
