A huge disappoin**ent after the money already spent. It IS an impressive building with obvious history to it, but to justify the prices they need to seriously renovate the place in ALL areas. Our room was just so old and not what we expected for the price paid. It was spacious and the bed was comfortable but the decor, amenities and bathroom were extremely poor. Dinner was disappointing.. not terrible but not worth the money we paid - I have no idea why Table du Roy is even on the list of "where to go" at all. Breakfast was a disgrace for charging an extra €18pp. The scrambled eggs on offer were actually green. Chef and management should go to a hotel that offers breakfast at a similar rate and see what they have to offer. The staff however were very kind and helpful and the location was excellent.

Nice chateau, old decor and dark room as you’d expect I suppose, limited restaurant menu options, but nice outdoor heated pool and good room price for September for Loire valley and close to major chateaux’s

I feel I have to disagree with other recent reviewers and say that this place is a potential gem. We arrived in a thunderstorm on a Sunday evening, never the best way to first way see somewhere, and it all felt a bit Castle of Ottranto/ Ricky Horror! However, by next morning all was transformed. The Monday morning staff were at work, all smiles and terribly helpful, and we were able to explore the chateau which is genuinely fascinating . They are working through a programme of renovation, so half the rooms are comfortable but in need of work (and this is where we stayed) and the other half have been renovated and are spectacular. The hotel and restaurant were both full on the night we stayed. Every member of staff was delightful and they are working so hard to pull the chateau round. The transformation should be worth experiencing!

First appearances are incredible especially in the sun. However looks were deceiving. The decor was dated, tired and poorly maintained rather than authentic. We stayed in the pool side accommodation which was quiet but dated bathroom (1970’s not authentic to chateau) with light up mirror. Spiders and cobwebs, even hornets at night time at windows and doors. We paid €17 pp for breakfast on first morning which was very poor. Food seemed to be set out early morning and not topped up with grey looking eggs and over cooked bacon. No service as one server person who had to be located many times by customers to refill plates and water but on our request, would not renew cooked items as fresh. Green mould had been cut off cheese. We didn’t have breakfast again and didn’t eat dinner at all there. Incredible looking chateaux (externally) and lovely pool but would not stay there again without significant improvements even at basic levels.

Staying at a chateau is its own reward, convenient to Chenonceau and other sites in the Loire

Talk about breathtaking….this chateau is like a wonderland. Just driving up to it takes you into another world. As you enter the gates & drive up the long driveway, you are immediately transported. The lobby is lovely & the staff are so very friendly & accommodating. Views from every corner & their swimming pool area is gorgeous. The inner courtyard is magnificent as are all of the varied gardens. Our room was huge, tastefully decorated & elegant. Ceilings were extremely high as were the beautifully appointed French doors. We overlooked the back courtyard where breakfast is served plus a scenic view. And you do not want to miss their breakfast. Probably the very best breakfasts we had during our entire one month in France. First night we had dinner at their exclusive restaurant La Table du Roy. Unbelievable! That will be another review. Such an experience. Lots of nooks & crannies inside & out to have cocktails later. Red velvet chairs, flowers & sculptures everywhere. When it was time to leave we were sorry we had not booked a longer stay. Touring various nearby towns such as St. George Sur Cher, Montrichaud, Amboise, so many charming places to explore.

We had a great time at the chateau. Three nights there was perfect for us and it's one of the most memorable places we've stayed. Definitely a bit rustic, but my kid felt it was more realistic than the super modernized places. What we liked: - Location - It's well located for exploring the area while having wonderful views and being quiet. - Service - Everyone was really friendly and helpful! - Room - We were in the attic in #32 on some of the hottest days of August and still had a great time. We spent most of the time out and about, turned on the fans (there was an AC unit as well but it was cool enough at night that we didn't need it), and swam in the pool. The room is great for families with 3 bedrooms and one large bathroom. Lots of stairs going up, but we were OK with that. - Dinner - Table du Roy was one of the best meals we had in France, we were able to book an hour before arriving. The servers were busy and it took a while to get seated, but after that, service was excellent. Improvement Opportunities: - Wifi: I wish it wasn't only in the lobby area and it was spotty some of the time. Made it harder to plan the rest of our trip / check emails / make calls. When it worked though, it was great! - Breakfast: It's super convenient, but we tend to sleep in and if you get there after 9:30am, they don't seem to refill things much...also lots of flies! FYIs: - This isn't full service with luggage assistance, concierge, poolside service, and TVs in the room, but we don't need those things anyways. In fact, I'd rather not have a TV in my room as it got my kid to go outside more! - Pet-friendly. We brought our dog and so did some of the other guests. - ***********'s descriptions for our room and pricing/occupancy info were pretty off. I ended up calling the front desk to get more info and book.

Rooms were so dark and difficult to access with children and dogs. Quite a depressing Chateau instead of a happy place to be in. The only staff we encountered were at reception and the ‘bar staff” couldn’t be found nor the bar. Stayed in plenty of Chateaux but this was definitely the worst. Awful. Pool was ok for the children but that was the only plus. Went on to a fabulous hotel in Vezac which was terrific. We have a home in the Pyrenees so know France very well.

Very last minute booking as we drove back to Scotland from southern France. Decided to book this as it looked lovely and we thought it would be nice to have a meal in the restaurant. Naively assumed we’d be able to get the restaurant but upon arrival were told it was fully booked. To be fair we only booked the hotel several hours earlier and we should have checked the restaurant availability before booking the hotel. But still. The hotel is okay. Bed was comfortable but rooms aren’t well soundproofed from other rooms or outside. We could hear people’s kids speaking in the rooms nearby. No shower, no television. But the WiFi was excellent. Anyway, it’s quaint of course and you accept the limitations of the building, but luxurious it is not. And frankly for €230+ for the night without breakfast, it is completely overpriced. Pity as we are travelling in the area regularly and had thought it may be a frequent stop for us. But that won’t be happening.
