Borgo Pignano

AVOID AT ALL COST!! Definitely not worth the money and time! We have stayed at much better properties and facilities which are way better than this for a lower cost! Property needs a lot of work! Air con not working properly, shower is blocked and hot water not working properly! Food choice is limited, not great compared with other places we stayed during this Tuscany trip. Staff are generally nice which is the only thing I can say.

Exceeded our expectations. Everything was beautiful, especially the picturesque views. Service was excellent. Lots of available activities-- would recommend the walking trails and the Borgo Tour with Gigi! Easy drive to Volterra and San Gimignano for day trips. We will certainly be back.

Borgo Pignano far exceeded our expectations! An amazing resort with beautiful architecture and stunning property that made us feel like we were in heaven! The rooms are beautiful, spacious and clean. The service was top notch and most of all we loved Gigi! He was there for our every need and made us feel special during our stay. I look forward to returning soon! We had a marvelous six-day stay at Borgo Pignano. It’s a twelfth-century villa complex 90 minutes south of Florence, perfectly located to tour all of Tuscany - Lucca, Pisa, Volterra, Siena, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Montelcino, and Chianti. Our large one-room suite had a large bedroom and comfortable living room, and was part of a former priest’s residence that also gave us access to a full kitchen and second living room. The property is vast, and has numerous gorgeous hiking trails, a vineyard, horseback riding, and athletic facilities (e.g., a tennis court and fitness center). There are three dining options - the Michelin-starred Villa Pignano, an alfresco restaurant overlooking the town of Volterra and Tuscan hills, and the “medieval” restaurant, with family-style seating. The food was outstanding, and there are options for anyone, including children. The staff was extremely well-trained, responsive, and friendly. I can’t recommend any place more highly.

This place is so special. Every detail is perfect - from the rooms, amenities, food, pool, property. There are so many activities to choose from and it is nestled between two beautiful natural reserves. We loved the wine tasting, pool, and the trails on property. Our room was stunning. Also really appreciated the sustainability focus here. The food is all organic, the products in the rooms are organic / chemical free, and overall it is very environmentally conscious. The service was also impeccable! The staff was so kind and you really get to know them after a few days due to the intimate nature of the stay. It is expensive but was worth it for our trip.

The gold standard for what an eco-resort should be! From the gardens, to the animals, the food, pools, and villas, everything is spectacular. The staff is also incredibly attentive, especially Gigi. He is kind, funny, and hospitable! Great place!!!!

My Fiance and I had the most beautiful stay at Borgo Pignano. This is truly one of the most special experiences we have ever had. The service is unmatched and the care the team shows for guests is incredible. The grounds are sprawling and there is so much to do. We ate at the restaurant and it was an incredible meal. We will absolutely be back. Thank you team Borgo Pignano!

I came here as an artist in residence where I stayed in a studio apartment which was so lovely and bright. The staff were so friendly, and I enjoyed keeping to myself going on long walks to paint the surrounding landscape- which is so breathtakingly beautiful, in all weathers. Loads of biodiversity as well, deer and beautiful birdsong. Its such a serene place and in May when I went it feels so rich and blossoming and wild (in the best way!). Great walks around the estate that are long yet clearly signposted, fantastic for exploring without the fear of getting lost! All in all such a wonderful experience! I would heartily recommend it.

In for a three-day family wedding, we stayed at one of the larger villas. Old European style with all modern conveniences, our villa welcomed us with an inviting lavender scent and a large loggia that overlooked a green, rolling Italian countryside. The view was gorgeous and we enjoyed many leisurely hours outside drinking local wines. We appreciated the Espresso machine and milk frother in the kitchen, along with fresh coffee, milk, bread, and butter. The beds were comfy and the pillows, cushy, and local lavender bath products were aromatic. The weather was sunny and cool - glorious, but too cool for the beautiful heated villa pool. Borgo Pignano offered a wide array of breakfast choices with attentive service each morning, and the catered meals for the welcome and wedding dinners were also delicious and beautifully presented. The wines and cocktails, particularly the Aperol Spritz, were excellent. We enjoyed a tour, albeit delayed, of the grounds with Gigi, who showed us the other villas, gardens, stables, pig keeps, old cemetery, and historic chapel. He narrated his tour with fascinating culinary, business, and historical facts that kept us engaged. Our only regret was not being able to book the activities we wanted while there. Borgo Pignano sent us a lovely brochure in advance but specified no times for availability. After arriving, we found that the only wine tastings occurred at 5pm, a time that conflicted with our planned wedding activities each of the three evenings. I wish we'd been able to see one brochure in advance with the times and prices for each activity (perhaps with a caveat that the activity had to have a minimum of so many participants). Borgo Pignano would also do well by moving up the time of the wine tasting to accommodate weekend wedding guests. In summary, we spent an incredibly memorable wedding weekend at one of the most beautiful places on earth. It was almost paradise...
