Heads-up: The 9/10 and 10/10 reviews here are not genuine. Staff approach guests at breakfast and ask them to leave a positive review on Trip.com – and then try to oversee and manage it while you do it on your phone. I assume many fall for that – I did myself in other hotels previously.
My honest experience:
The staff are very friendly, and the breakfast is amazing – but the hotel itself has one unbearable flaw that actually made me ill.
Details:
The air conditioning doesn't really work, no matter what temperature you set. It's one of those old central ventilation systems with big exhausts in the ceiling which never actually react properly to any settings you punch in on the modern-looking panel. With only a slight breeze coming out of it, my (admittedly large) room stayed at 30°C (!!!) all night and morning, and never dropped below 27.5°C even at the coolest point. It was unbearably warm – impossible to sleep, no chance to recover from the day's exhaustion and heat. In fact, in the end the stay left me more worn out and tired than I was before I arrived. Being in the room after breakfast, you only feel pressed to lie down and doze off.
The (genuinely very friendly) staff brought a fan, which blew across the bed and at least gave me some cooling relief so I could finally sleep. The next morning I still woke up sweated through, because the machine had switched off during the night. And: with a proper sore throat and headache – the start of a cold, we all know the feeling. It only got worse during the day, no matter how much time I spent outside or how well I took care of myself.
Dear staff, it is UNACCEPTABLE that you keep running these old, weak, useless systems and leave your rooms at unbearable temperatures. It affects people – their whole wellbeing, their entire travel experience, and finally their health. With these scorching outside temperatures of 37–39°C which we all have to endure and look forward to escaping in your hotels at night – you either fix this, or you announce "tropical heat rooms" in the hotel apps – but not like this!!
Breakfast: one of the best I've ever had. Amazing coffee of different types, drinking yoghurt, eggs galore plus baked beans and bacon, fresh fruits, bread, sweets and pastry – not even mentioning all the Chinese dishes.
If they only fix the A/C, this place can easily go from the worst to the best summer hotel in town.
For potential visitors: Only do refundable bookings and check the room's temperature before checking in. Otherwise your stay might have unbearable nights and eventually a real problem.
Best of luck to all sides.
