"Small compact room with modern interior. Comfy bed and well ventilated with mini fan provided. They provided extra bedsheet so that the sofa bed is converted to another single. Big enuf for a teenager to sleep on. Space big enough to open just one huge luggage. Somehow the room feels damp but we just stayed for two nights so did not bother changing rooms. Lots of free parking available. Near Aso milk factory which is a must visit for delicious pastries and snacks."

"This cozy family-run inn is run by a friendly and welcoming owner from Taiwan. He's come all the way to Japan to retire and start his second life, handling everything himself. He's always ready to help with any questions about accommodation, transportation, or sightseeing. The traditional Japanese wooden house has a charming, old-fashioned feel. The rooms and bathrooms are in the Showa era style, but have been renovated to be very comfortable, with complete heating and air conditioning. Even in spring, temperatures in Aso can sometimes drop to 0 degrees Celsius at night, but the bathrooms are heated, so there's no need to worry too much. The entire building has three or four suites, making it perfect for family trips or solo road trips. It's about a 1-1.5 hour drive from the inn to Mount Aso, or you can walk to Aso Shrine and take a bus to JR Aso Station. There's also a shopping street near the shrine where you can eat and shop; you can borrow a bicycle from the owner to get there. There's also a specialty Aso natural ice cream shop nearby – give it a try! Cycling through the nearby farmland in spring, summer, and autumn is a wonderful experience. The only issue is that from other major stations, you can't use IC cards, credit cards, or mobile transit cards to exit JR Miyashita Station; you must buy a ticket at the departure station first. Buses are also relatively infrequent in the vicinity. However, this isn't a problem if you're driving through Kyushu. I genuinely think this place is suitable for: 1. Those who have visited Japan multiple times and want to escape the hustle and bustle of tourist areas and enjoy natural scenery. 2. Those who enjoy tranquility or hiking in the mountains. 3. Family trips, or people who need a kitchen. (Note: The last line appears to be a separate, unrelated comment: ”阿苏昔ながらの古民家で、台湾籍のオーナーは亲で観光情报もいろいろ教えてくれてすごく助かりました。 駅から徒橩7分、无料自車、气和室全.”) Nearly くのAso Station のホテルが高すぎると情じたら、こちらのあったかい客服もいいチョイスかもしれません. English, ********* Chinese (Japanese は通訳アプリ頼み) Metropolitan の声騒から里れたい方, Aso イキングツアーに行きたい方、広い古民家と安いAsoのstayをおExplorationしの方にぜびオススメです."

Make Fairfield by Marriott Kumamoto Aso the base of a trip that introduces you to the deep charms of Mount Aso and its surroundings. We’re located alongside Michi-no-Eki Aso, which offers a panoramic view of Mount Asos five peaks from our hotel in Kumamoto, Japan. This area was formed by one of the largest calderas in the world and features fabulous sights, which range from idyllic scenes of grazing horses on the Kusasenri-ga-hama Plain to the breathtaking sight of Aso-Nakadake’s crater and its dynamic volcanic plumes.

"Beautiful hotel with Mountain Views. The hotel looks spectacular and is very clean. The room is very spacious. Location is perfect as it shares the same building as the mall. You can use the lift which brings you directly to the mall. The mall has shops like Uniqlo, ABC Mart and many more, including a food court with various food options. There are 3 washing machines in both the male & female public onsen area, however it is pretty difficult to get a chance to wash your clothes. The hotel seems like a popular wedding venue, however it does not disrupt the stay as the guests do not seem to linger in the lobby at all. There’s a Nescafé coffee machine which you can help yourself to outside the public onsen, along with Kumamoto’s fresh spring water tap for drinking. For parking, please avoid the carpark infront of the mall as it is expensive. If you’re facing the mall, the hotel’s carpark is at the left side basement of the mall. The hotel provides a discounted price at off-peak periods. It’s best to leave your hotel before 12 noon. It is paid parking and there’s a ticket machine at the basement entrance of the hotel. The hotel location is perfect as it is also very close to a station."

"The guesthouse is fantastic! While its location might be a bit inconvenient if you don't have a car, as it's quite a distance from the train station, both the rooms and the hot spring baths are very comfortable. They also provide washing machines and vending machines (laundry pods/detergent cost extra). The guesthouse staff offered excellent service; the next day, when I couldn't find a bus, they even drove me directly to the station. I'm truly grateful for that! I would definitely choose to stay here again next time!"

"The room was a bit small, and the towels had a really unpleasant, sour smell – it was honestly unbearable. I wasn't very satisfied. The room view was decent, but overall, the place felt quite old and outdated. The transportation wasn't convenient. Overall, it was just an average experience."

"I have been staying in very special places in Japan: beautiful locations with lots of care and details but this one is my favorite so far! Yoshi and Myong made me feel super welcomed, comfy and happy in their guesthouse. I arrived with a BIG LUGAGGE which was right away taken up by Yoshi (thank you so much!!!) and when I left he reminded me I could ask for his help if I needed (which I did). I like to ”judge” a place by the comfiness of their sofas, and Aso Base delivered superb excellency! So many cozy corners, there's not even one futon that is not hyper soft! The bathrooms have some themes on the wall, one is the cat theme, another one jellyfish and the other is lizards, so I had fun time choosing what theme I would go to. The shower capsules have shampoo conditioner and soap and then an area to dry your hair with a great view! There's details that are just piece of art! A small corner with a table, cd player and CDs that are awesome- Japanese, international and relax music and audiobooks! I've searched many of them in Spotify and will keep listening. While you are listening there are some images, like a collage, and it's so well thought. Every image has a doll representing it live action as well, like dreams coming true. The kitchen is reeeeaallly equipped, drinking water at the tap and has lots of seasonings and teapots 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 There's extra blankets and pillows and some of the pillows are animal shaped 😺🐶🐷🐑 so during my four nights there I slept in the company of Mr Snuggles, a grey cat that smiled with his eyes closed - there was pinky pig and hairy sheep too! in the female dorm every bed has a blue sky wallpaper like in Toy Story!!!! 🥹 I was a bit worried because the comments say there's lots of rules and that they are strict and don't open the door for people in the rain. But the thing is: there are some rules, because they are two people (+ another lady who helps with cleaning) taking care of a big house. It needs some organization and routines. They provide storage and the area has great options to enjoy while waiting - if necessary. Is a small town, many great restaurants around - the shop right next to the station that sells local products is a must trying repeatedly, the best onsen in the region is 3 minutes away, a Lawson across the street. I greatly enjoyed my time in Aso and everyday was glad to be going back to Aso Base. It is a place to come with a light and warm heart and soul ( they will certainly retribute), where you can have great conversations, play games or read a book, cozily nested and drinking tea while the fireplace and many lighting create a whole vibe. I've booked 4 nights and wish they were 8! Kamsahamnida and Domo Arigato, Myong and Yoshi!!!"

"As the first stop of my birthday trip, I chose Aso. Having previously worked as a hotel management professional, I had high expectations for the hotel’s facilities and services. My stay at Kakuman Hotel, along with my traveling companions, was thoroughly enjoyable—from check-in to the overall amenities, everything exceeded our satisfaction. The staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly, whether at the front desk or in the restaurant. Additionally, experiencing hot springs for the first time left us feeling deeply relaxed. Thank you to Kakuman Hotel for adding color to my journey.🙏🏼 While every aspect was highly satisfying, there was a minor shortcoming: the majority of diners in the restaurant were Korean tourists. On my second night, a small incident occurred during dinner. The server assigned me a seat where only tableware and a departure-time notice were placed. After I retrieved my food, I found three Korean guests (two elderly individuals and a middle-aged man) preparing to sit there. I was confused whether I had taken the wrong seat or if there was another reason, so I asked the guests. Unexpectedly, the man loudly called over the female server who had arranged the seat and sharply questioned her in Japanese. The server later found me the correct seat, which was at the table adjacent to the three guests. I felt deeply sorry for the female server being unjustly scolded, and I also did not understand why the Korean man needed to accuse her in such a loud tone—I would have been happy to apologize for my misunderstanding. Regarding the above incident, I would like to offer a suggestion: the tables in the restaurant are each equipped with a bucket of tableware and wet wipes, but there are no numbers or markers to identify the assigned seats. Guests can only rely on placing their own items or memory to remember their seats. I believe I am not the only one who has encountered a similar issue, and the hotel may consider adding markers to each table to make it easier for guests to recognize their assigned seats."

"It was very good. It was my first time staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan with tatami rooms, so I wasn't used to it at first, but I slept well and it was very quiet. The public and private onsen baths were both excellent, and the meals included with the stay were also well-arranged. Recommended!"

GGuest UserIn the quiet mountainous area of Azu, the superior traditional hot spring hotel, it is impossible to expect direct rail or public transportation! Only suitable for self-driving travelers, go to the nearest convenience store and drive 4 minutes. The service is too good to ask for more, very kind, the waiter can communicate in simple English. Breakfast and dinner are delicious, eat in a separate room. Originally there were cows and sashimi, but because we didn't eat it, the check-in explained that the waiter worked hard to help us communicate with the chef to change to duck and sashimi. The room is very large, the TV is a large-size Sony new smart TV in recent years, Wifi is stable, you can stay in the room to soak in the hot springs, lie on the sofa to play waste and watch YouTube, not afraid of doing nothing at night. The whole hotel only has 7 rooms, so there are not many guests. The room has been soaked in separate baths, and you can use a large bath (indoor and outdoor) at night to appoint 5 separate soup houses, soaking is very cool! Next time if you have the opportunity to pass Asu to do the midway station, you will definitely come again!

JJujuliabeiThis onsen ryokan, right in the heart of Uchinomaki Onsen town, gets a perfect score from us! We encountered incredibly thoughtful staff and a warm taxi driver. Knowing we had to catch the JR train the next day, the front desk auntie went above and beyond to help us arrange a taxi, even standing outside anxiously waiting with us. Once the taxi arrived, she repeatedly urged the driver to speed up. The driver, a kind grandpa, even used a translator on the way to constantly reassure us that we would make it in time, and expressed his longing to visit China. This was truly the highlight of our trip. As for the hotel itself, it's a well-established ryokan. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, each featuring an indoor onsen with direct, free-flowing hot spring water that leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth. We loved the large, traditional Japanese-style decor. There are also two private onsen that require advance booking, as well as a large public onsen. We later discovered it was even a filming location for a racing manga! Additionally, there's an outdoor foot bath. Dining was a delightful surprise. We enjoyed Wagyu shabu-shabu, and the children's meal even included Wagyu yakiniku. Breakfast offered the famous local Mizunashi chicken dish, which completely won over my taste buds. On the first floor, there's also a preserved, old-fashioned Japanese-style reception room in the lobby, made with high-quality wood, which guests can visit.

GGuest UserLike the onsen in the hotel; onsen water is good and big enough for 6-7 person to use. Japanese breakfast served by staff was quite substantial and tasty. The room that we stayed is quiet and faces mountain and park. Bathroom a little small but clean. There wasn’t any wardrobe but there were hooks on the wall and hangers were provided.
