"The Towada Winter Story Festival was a total bust, but Lake Towada itself was an unexpected delight – absolutely stunning. By chance, I even hiked a portion of the Oirase Stream in the morning. The weather, with snow one minute and clear skies the next, added so much character to the lake's scenery. The hotel room was spacious, and it was quite an interesting check-in experience, using very old-fashioned keys and a metal door."

"I can only say that when traveling abroad, it's always Chinese people ripping off other Chinese people! I doubt even 10% of the guests here are local Japanese. This hotel was hyped up so much on Xiaohongshu, and it's always fully booked on Trip.com. I finally managed to snag two nights last year, only to be sorely disappointed. Both Hoshino Resorts hotels I stayed at this trip were a letdown. Firstly, the hotel's decor, apart from the lobby, just screamed simple and cheap everywhere else. Some might call it 'returning to nature,' but I personally think it doesn't justify the 5K+ a night price tag. Secondly, the hot spring was incredibly, incredibly ordinary. In the evening, it was packed like a pot of boiling dumplings. The 'ice wall hot spring' photos circulating online? That's literally the entire outdoor section. Without filters, it's just a frozen wall you could find anywhere. Lastly, and most outrageously, the rooms don't provide drinking water. You either drink tap water or go to a corner on the second floor (we were on the 4th, I think there's a 5th too) to get purified water. The water dispenser's flow rate was barely more than my tears. Maybe most people don't know they can get purified water, or they're too lazy to walk that far, otherwise, the queue to get water would stretch for miles. When I told my Japanese friends that I paid 5K a night, their jaws dropped! They said they'd get at least a 30% discount if they booked it. I guess getting ripped off while traveling is the norm, and I wouldn't mind if the premium price meant a comfortable and happy stay. But paying 5K for a hotel and still having to fetch my own water was completely unexpected. The only upsides were the breakfast by the stream (very hard to book, we only managed to get four spots for six people by booking over two months in advance) and the pleasant atmosphere of the French dinner."

"We had a wonderful stay at Todawakohan Sakura. My family especially enjoyed the kids' club—it was a great space for the children to have fun while we relaxed. The location is also very convenient, making it easy to explore the surrounding area and attractions. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, which made our stay even more enjoyable. However, the breakfast selection was quite simple and modest, and we hoped for a bit more variety. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would definitely consider staying at this hotel again."

"The hotel is reasonably priced, though the rooms are small. Two adults and two children chose two adjacent rooms. There's a McDonald's and a beauty store downstairs, a restaurant within a 5-minute walk, and the Towada Art Museum a 5-minute drive away. Several convenience stores are nearby. Overall, it's a good hotel. Chartering a car to Okujorai Creek and Towada is quite convenient."

"It was convenient that there were restaurants nearby. It was also close to the Nitobe Inazo Memorial Museum, so it was a great location. I'd like to stay here again."

"This hostel is conveniently located near Lake Towada. It can be easily accessed from the JR bus station. There is a convenience store at about 100 meters of distance from the hostel. The building is a bit outdated and the facilities look old. But please remember that this is a hostel and is affordable. The staff are extremely polite and welcoming. They have a big heart and serve with their full sincerity. When I reached the hostel early, there was nobody at the front desk, but there was a note for me with my room details. Later at night, When I mentioned that I do not eat meat, and I will manage with only rice, the lady, Ms. Tomoko quickly prepared fish without even thinking twice and asked me to pay very little. Even the next day she prepared cold noodles along with rice and charged extremely less. The point here is not the money but her big heart in serving without thinking about money or profit. I highly recommend this hostel purely by considering at the generosity and sweet, politeness of the staff there. This hostel is conveniently located even to walk along Oirase gorge. Easier to stay here and take bus to either to the northern end - Yakeyama or the southern, lake side end Nenokuchi and walk along the gorge and return back to the hostel. This way the trip becomes affordable and easier."

"It is highly recommended to travel by car, because the location is far from the station There is also a self-service laundry near the hotel, which is very convenient  Free hot springs are available every night. The bathhouse is small but enough to use. Breakfast choice is simple and not too much money, but it is enough leftovers and tastes very good The room is clean, or it is biased towards the suburbs, there are small insects every night but it does not affect the stay ☀️ The aunts and staff in the dining hall have a good attitude and are courteous to foreigners"

"My family and I stayed in a Western-style house on the third floor of the new building. Since we were driving, transportation wasn't a problem. There are many hot spring hotels nearby, but since we have elderly family members, we needed a room with a toilet. The choice was between Hoshino and Tsuta Onsen. I'm so glad we chose Tsuta Onsen. The thousand-year-old secret hot springs are authentic, the decor and space are comfortable, and there were no foreign tourists (it seemed we were the only foreigners there). The breakfast (buffet) and dinner (Japanese-style) were both very filling and delicious. There's also the secret Tsuta Pond nearby for a stroll. It was completely worth it. P.S. The starry sky at night is truly beautiful 😍"

"It is convenient to transfer from Sanzexu to take the bus. The izakaya around the hotel is full of characteristics of the Edo era. Breakfast is healthy, and kaiseki cuisine is also very rich in the evening! Just happened to encounter an earthquake, the Japanese in the hotel did not shock, the first time in life encountered an earthquake in the room shaking!"
