"The hotel is located in the city of Yamagata. You need to transfer to the JR station to get there by bus. If you arrive too late, you may not be able to take the bus to the city. It is recommended for self-driving tourists. Although the hotel is quite historic, the rooms are clean and the facilities are good. There is a lawson and a hot spring for guests in the basement. There is also a hotel-only indoor parking lot next to it, which costs 700 yen per night. If you just want to park overnight, there are other cheaper parking options nearby. There are also many restaurant options nearby."

"These newer Daiwa hotel are best. We've stayed in Yamagata, Koriyama, and Morioka they're very similarily designed and decor. They're better then other Daiwa in other cities. Their moderate Twins allows extra sofa bed is perfect fit for our family of 4 to sleep comfortably while staying together. Everything is just perfect with these newer built Daiwa hotels if you can find a good price on them."

"When I made my reservation, only smoking rooms were available, so I was worried about the smell, but when I called the day before to inquire about the snow conditions and parking situation, the front desk person kindly changed my room to a non-smoking room that was available.

"Small hotel, basic facilities are available. Breakfast and dinner are light and look not much, but they are really filling. The service is very user-friendly. You cannot ski in and out of the hotel, you need to carry a board in and out, and you have to climb the snow slope and go down the snow trail every day. The hotel is halfway down the slope between the No. 3 and No. 31 cable cars. The No. 3 cable car is right next to the hot spring street and the only Lawson supermarket is next to it."

I sent an email to the hotel to ask if it was possible to accommodate three people in a room, as I wanted to add more people, but the hotel did not respond. Later, when I arrived at the hotel, I had to ask my friend to book a hotel nearby. Because the location is very remote and we arrived late, the room we bought included dinner, but the hotel was unwilling to give it to an extra friend to dine together. They were also very strict. Even if we wanted to pay, they were unwilling to give us an extra seat to dine together. They even wanted to kick our friends out. When we asked our friends to stay in the room, someone would come to the room and knock on the door to kick us out. The experience on the first day was not very good. We are very polite guests and we don't make noise or disturb other guests, but it is hard to understand how the hotel treats guests. Still keep saying だめだめだめ

GGuest UserThe hotel staff is very friendly and polite, English communication is OK, the meals are also very exquisite and delicious, there are indoor and outdoor hot springs, it is very comfortable to soak in, although the overall equipment of the hotel is a little old, but it is very clean, you will not feel uncomfortable living here, but there is a Japanese nostalgic atmosphere, there is 2 hours of Asahi self-service in the evening, the room is comfortable, and it is very dreamy to see the snow outside the window when you get up; when you check out, they will also help you to be taken to the bus station, which is very convenient.

ZZoeAbsolutely lovely place. At first I thought I'd be uncomfortable with how spaceous the room was (I'm a very jumpy solo traveller), but the room was just so comfy with an excellent view. The heater was a bit hot, but there was an electric fan too, so all was great.
The hotel allows you to have a free 50 minute private bath each night, and the private baths are amazing, able to accommodate up to five persons and with windows to let in the light and stuff. Excellent onsen water -- very acidic and very hot. Takes some time getting used to the heat, but once you do it's a heavenly experience. There are also public baths (free of charge) that you could enjoy throughout the night and into early morning (they're closed for cleaning only during 9-12 in the morning), one indoor and one outdoor, both connected to one another. The outdoor one is a bit small, but it's so refreshing to be able to flee from the stifling indoor onsen to enjoy the crisp winter air while soaking up in the heat.

Dinner is very tasty, satisfactory, diverse. Free transfer to the bus station. Attentive staff. We are very happy with the rest in this place. If you ever get lucky to get to Zhao again, we'll be happy to stop again in this fairy tale place. Thank you so much!

The room was huge, much too large for just a solo traveler like me but it would have been perfect if I had brought my wife and child along. The onsen quality was great, albeit the fittings at the shower area were a bit old. The food was hands down amazing and featured great local produce. Honestly there was too much for one person to finish! What I especially liked was that they had a separate room on the first floor where if it was too early for you to check in, you could drop your luggage off, change, and then grab your gear and head to the slopes. Same thing if you intend to charge the slopes a bit more on your last day, just leave your stuff in the storage room, hit the slopes, come back and change out, hit the onsen for the last time, then go off. Definitely recommending this place to my friends visiting Zao.

RRosina KimIt’s quite a big hotel, 3 buildings are connected and there are many rooms. The rooms are a bit outdated but still maintained well. Service was good and flexible. Transportation to the village is quite necessary when the roads are covered by snow, especially with luggage. They have free shuttle bus which is great.
Best parts: 1. Dinner semi-buffet has unlimited alcoholic beverages including local sake, draft beer and wines. 2. Ski & board rental shop is right outside of the hotel. Although hotel only accept cash for the lift ticket, you can rent the gear (rental shop accepts credit card) and ski down the hill (20sec) to the cable ticket counter to buy ticket, pay by credit card. The location has lifts 5,6 and cable 4

KKUOHAOI stayed one night when I was passing through Fukushima in early March. It was near the station. There was a supermarket next to it, which was very convenient. The breakfast was average and the room was OK. It was a good choice for passing through and I might consider staying there in the future.

AAnonymous UserThere was a little bit of a problem with the pick-up at Zao Onsen Station at the beginning. The operator's English was not very good, but we were finally picked up! Then the hotel is relatively old, but very clean! On the last day when we were about to leave, we asked if we needed to pick up guests at the station, and then they just helped us to pick up at the station, so the round-trip pick-up service was very good!
