Hotel Garni Angelika

We arrived for a holiday in the snow, courtesy of Lion Alpin - upon arrival the front door of the hotel was unlocked and nobody was at reception. The ski storage basement was down some open stairs next to reception and there was no security or locked access in place, this was immediately a concern, but fortunately during our stay nothing was stolen, but there really should be a lockable door only accessible by guests of the hotel. The hotel is centrally located and next door to the ski tunnel taking you straight to the main lift up to the top, therefore it's ideal! Upon heading up the room, we were surprised by the size of it, very generous indeed, and it even had a balcony which wrapped around the building. However, as night came we realised that this 'luxury' was a serious negative. The streets here are noisy at night, the drunks are loud and active until beyond 4am each night, and the windows/balcony doors are single-glazed and let in every single bit of noise. If we were to stay again, we would avoid having a street-facing room without question. The beds were very hard, especially felt after a day of skiing where your body needs rest. We requested extra duvets to sleep on top of, because the hotel didn't have any 'toppers'. If the hotel invested in some basic toppers, this issue would be solved. The pillows also compress entirely and so we also requested extra pillows. Breakfast was pleasant, the room was very bright and some more subtle lighting would have been good, but the choice of hot and cold foods were good, and the service was friendly. Finally, upon check-out there is a 'City Tax' which must be paid, this is a city thing and not the fault of the hotel, but be prepared to have to pay this cash.
