Anglers Arms

Not sure who manages this place now, but it’s gone a long way downhill. On arrival for an early evening meal, we weren’t particularly greeted very warmly, but were shown almost reluctantly to our table. Hubby had a starter of “warm” pork pie, which was pretty disgusting by all accounts. It looked like the very cheapest of pork pies, which had been microwaved, hence the pastry was soft and tasted of nothing but fat!! I had a main of grilled sea bass risotto with lobster bisque, which was completely tasteless, not a hint of fish taste to any of the dish, and some pretty wilted samphire alongside…so for a price tag of £22 this was an extremely underwhelming dish! Hubby’s scampi was actually soggy, and tasted like a very cheap supermarket version, accompanied by some pretty tasteless mushy peas. At no point did anyone ask if everything was ok with our meals, and even on paying the £58 bill still nothing offered by way of how our food had been. To summarise, dire food and equally dire and uninterested staff!!

Very good value. Comfy room, excellent breakfast, good pub food in evening and very helpful staff. The location is ideal for visiting the sites of Northumbria. The Anglers Arms itself is located in a very quiet and peaceful position although close to main A roads for easy access.

Although off the beaten track, the Anglers Arms is a Fantastic place to stay. Situated a few miles North of Morpeth in Beautiful countryside. The rooms are Clean and spacious with on suit shower room, the food is superb and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Had a minor problem first night but rectified very Quickley, Definitely worth a visit. And with a river right across the road, it's an Anglers dream.

Sunday lunch was delicious- copious amounts of really good quality food. Husband had fish and chips- thoroughly enjoyed it- proper chips and light batter. Homemade cheesecake was unbelievable. Staff were lovely, attentive and pleasant. Lovely pub, locally sourced meat, fab outdoor area for when the weather improves.

Poor quality food. The chicken dish was so dry that it was hardly swallowable, the fish and chips had sloppy batter with lots of bones still in the fish. The fish was tasteless and definitely not fresh, accompanied by greasy chips and low-quality mushy peas. The dessert was not much better – suffice to say, we ordered and tasted them, but could not eat them. The staff’s approach was unfriendly and unwelcoming. For sure, it’s a place we will never go back to and will not recommend anyone to try. The place could do with new management and a new chef. We would have given zero stars if we could.

Fantastic stay, really clean and comfortable room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Meals in the restaurant were delicious and good quality. The breakfast set you up for the day. Location was superb very quiet, with no disturbance from other rooms.

My husband and I stayed overnight when away on business. It was superb value for money. Room was warm and cozy and food was excellent. Very friendly and efficient staff. Would highly recommend this very characterful old inn, with cracking views.

Excellent comfortable accommodation, food is excellent and good value, large portions. I have lost count of the number of times we have stayed here but we always come back as it’s central for all attractions in Northumberland, the staff are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend

We had an excellent stay in the cottage, it was clean and they tidy, good facilities and very comfortable, breakfast was excellent with a great choice and they were only to happy to cook exactly what you wanted. Food in the pub on the evening was very good and large portions. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble, we were in the area for a wedding at the Brinkburn priory so we were only 10 minutes away.
