We booked to stay at Playa Negra Hotel for one night on our way down to Nosara, just as somewhere to stop off to enjoy the lovely Playa Negra Beach. As soon as we checked in we wished that we had another few nights to stay! The service was excellent, really friendly and welcoming. The room was pristine and really modern with the most comfortable bed I slept in during 3 weeks in Costa Rica. The view out of the window onto the beautiful trees and birdlife was awesome too. We ate dinner at the hotel which was excellent, there was live music which was also great and a little cocktail bar in the rear garden which was so nice too. Playa Negra is a bit off the beaten track with a very bumpy journey to get there, but this brilliant little hotel is well worth a visit with the lovely beach a 10 min walk or opposite the hotel. I felt that the price was excellent, such great value for money as most of the places we stayed were 50-100% more expensive, strangely I was nearly put off by the name as being English associated ‘Cafe’ with a local cheap eatery but there is nothing Cafe like about this lovely little hotel, also worth a visit for dinner or cocktails if you are staying in the area Thank you! I travel frequently for business and I can honestly say this might be the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Their customer service and attention to detail is far superior than anything I have had before. They are more than happy to accommodate anything and will always help out! The food at the restaurant (as well as the staff) was truly delicious!! I cannot recommend this place enough.

We had the best time here! Delicious food, perfectly crafted cocktails, yoga next door, and the friendliest staff! Rocsi was a dream come true - going out of her way to ensure we had a memorable stay. She even had the room decked out for my birthday!

This tiny hotel is only eight rooms. We stayed in Suite 2, a large room with a king bed and huge spa shower. It was air conditioned and it is hot here! The mattress and pillows were first class. But the service! Better than I ever had in all my 76 years. I had a message and it was a needed service to an aching back. The place had a tiny pool but perfect for a dip to cool off or for little kids to frolic. The main town is about 30 minutes away by car, we went there once. Very lively and developed but the car congestion was awful, and some roads weren’t paved. The beach is a 10 minute stroll, I went into town just to buy two beach chairs to use for our week. We went to another beach, by taxi, which boasted a restaurant called Lola’s and that beach had chaise lounges and umbrellas to rent. We had the little beach here to ourselves, and enjoyed the glorious sunsets. There was a Japanese restaurant across the road that was popular but I thought overpriced. There is a little convenience store, very little. The nightlife here is limited but everyone was so friendly. And everybody here spoke English as well as Spanish. The manager was always available. The food here was fine, breakfast spectacular. Highly recommend this little surfer place.

I spent three days with my family at this hotel for my birthday, and it was a remarkable experience. The staff, especially Juan Carlos, the chef, Pascal, Rosemary, Alex, etc, made it extraordinary. Juan Carlos prepared some of the most exquisite dishes I've ever tasted, including an amazing Ceviche, along with superb fish and beef dishes. The birthday chocolate cake for me was the best I've tried – perfectly balanced in sweetness and taste. We appreciated their accommodating our late-night arrival after work. The hotel staff was consistently helpful and attentive to our comfort. The hotel's location is ideal, being near Playa Negra, an uncrowded beautiful beach with white sand and clear water during low tide in the morning. Additionally, it's just an hour's drive from Conchal Beach, one of Costa Rica's most famous and beautiful beaches, and an hour and a half from Catalinas, Danta, and Dantita beaches. I highly recommend this place for its exceptional service and the splendid Playa Negra. Parking can be limited, especially when the restaurant is full, but this isn't a major issue as the area is secure.

We have stayed multiple times at Cafe Playa Negra and each time it gets better and better! The staff now remembers us and it feels like we’re coming home when we visit. The rooms are super clean and nice I love the showers and the food at the cafe is by far better than any other restaurant in town including the foofy over priced fancy ones. They have great live music too! Get the breakfast burrito, the shrimp rice and the lomo saltado. You won’t be sorry! I’m sad to be leaving and can’t wait to come back! CPN you are the best!

The hotel is a small boutique style hotel with only a handful of rooms. The room room I was in (#2) wasn’t terribly large, but was certainly spacious enough for a solo traveler such as myself. It featured premium bedding and the two nights I was there I enjoyed a very restful night’s sleep. The property was recently renovated. The bathroom has a large glass-door shower with a rainfall shower head. It does feature an inexpensive table/desk, which is functional if you need to work on a laptop, but is not comparable to a desk that you might find in a larger hotel. Breakfast is included and it was absolutely delicious! I enjoyed lunch at the property in 2022, which piqued my interest in staying there this year. The only downside(s), for me anyway, is the in-room safe is not bolted to anything to make it more secure. Also, the room key comes with a tag that has the room number one one side and the property name emblazoned on the other. So if one were to lose the key somewhere, or gave it stolen from your vehicle, the thief would have easy access to your room. I did bring this to the attention of the desk clerk. The reply that I received was it was a smaller hotel, and they know who the registered guests are, so presumably it would not be a problem. Those two things would not preclude me from staying here again, but it would be nice if they were corrected.

Great hotel near the beach in Playa Negra. Nice restaurant and staff, super relaxed. If you find yourself at this part of Costa Rica get on the right mindset and this will be the place for you. We can walk to the beach from here.
