Casa Batsu Charming Bnb

We loved Casa Batsu! A great B&B in Monteverde with a lovely owner Carlos. As all the reviews state, Carlos is a really friendly and welcoming host who will help with any enquiries you have for trips, transport and restaurants in the area. The property is so calm, warm and welcoming and the outside area really lovely and relaxing, we felt really at home. The breakfast was amazing with lots of little touches to make it special. We only had two nights but could definitely have stayed another night. We slept very well and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Definitely do the walk around the grounds but keep your eyes peeled for the little signs as we missed one and ended up doing a bit of a big detour ;-)

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Paula and shown around the beautiful property and room. We loved everything about it, the bed and quality bedding, the designer bathroom and the services were exceptional. The breakfast in the morning was delightful as were all the people who worked there to make it a great experience. It's a short walk into town but nice to be out of the busy-ness too. We would definitely stay here again, home away from home.

I booked two nights for our March'24 trip. 6 days before the trip, I found the confirmation email only states one night, so I sent email to clarify that I actually booked for two nights, but I never heard back. Then I emailed and tried to cancel the booking (I can cancel 5 days before the check-in), but I still didn't hear back, then I called Carlos 6 times and texted him, I struggled the whole day to reach him, he finally texted me saying he was driving to hospital and will cancel for me the next day. He responded my email two days later saying he will refund the deposit. 10 days later, I came from the trip and found I still did not receive the refund. I contacted him today again, I still did not hear anything. I read all the good thing about this airBnB, I was really looking forward to staying there, but the whole communication is very very bad.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Casa Batsu. Laura and Carlos were very helpful with their suggestions and organising taxis etc. We organised a chocolate, coffee and night tour with Don Juan which was great fun and a morning nature tour through Casa Batsu, as well as a transfer to La Fortuna (don't forget to have cash available to pay for these as the local ATM ran out!) All were great and the morning nature tour in particular is one not to be missed. We also loved Rex the dog who was super friendly and affectionate. The breakfasts were plentiful and an absolute treat! Carlos is an exceptional cook and we really enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and the dinner there. The accommodation is located outside of Santa Elena and is walkable although it does take time and I'd probably avoid during night time. We mostly relied on cabs into the centre and back which cost about $5 dollars each way and were easy to organise at both ends. I would definitely return in the future! So this is a 10 * review for the Casa Batsu. Wait, I can give only 5. Well, then I write 2 x 5 *' reviews. Oh, can't do that neither. Then this 5* review has to do the job, regard it as a 2 * 5 review: 1st 5* for Carlos. He should be given the Costa Rica Host Of the Year certificate, valid for a lifetime. He is super friendly and super helpful, always eager to make your life as guest at the casa as easy going as possible. He helps out with tour proposals, tour organizations, transport, where ever he can. He has good advice, an healthy attitude, is an excellent cook, and his coconut cocktail with rum - amazing. 2nd 5* for the casa: the casa is very well maintained, super clean, the interior and exterior are really nicely decorated. You can see a woman's touch, well done! My room is spacious and has its own veranda + a fridge. In the garden, there are lots of birds to see - more than you will see in the surrounding cloud forests :-) When I arrived at the place by bus, the tourists remaining in the bus collectively said: "oh, that's beautiful, you are one lucky guy!". Yes, I am, thanks to my travel agent :-) I enjoyed every minute of my stay and will come back, next time with my family. Until then, Pura Vida!

Carlos is a wonderful owner and host. The rooms and grounds exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was unique and the gals were friendly. We especially liked the trail that Carlos has on his grounds. It is a moderate hike and can be completed in under an hour. Wonderful views and we ran into a horse back riding group.

This is a gorgeous family run luxury B&B just outside Monteverde town. When we arrived we asked for a tour to be arranged for the next day and within an hour we were all set. Breakfast was high quality and plentiful. Superb stay and highly recommend staying here

We stayed at Casa Batsu in the Colibri Room for 3 nights. It's a wonderful place to stay. Our room was perfect for our family, with two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms. Some things really set Casa Batsu apart: * There are only five rooms in Casa Batsu, so we received personal attention as in a bed-and-breakfast rather than a hotel. * Compared to options in-town, this is more in-nature. The property is located about a mile outside of Santa Elena town and is large but very little of the grounds are built up (since it's only a 5 room B&B) so there are lots of trees, plants, open space, etc. It's beautiful and serene. We enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching birds and just relaxing. * The owner, Carlos, runs the place himself with some supporting staff. Since he is so busy, communication before arrival is not the strongest aspect. But once we arrived he devoted his attention to us. He helped us plan our time in Monteverde, booked guides, booked transportation, made recommendations on where to eat, what to see, etc. All of his recommendations were spot-on. We didn't make any reservations for attractions or guides prior to our arrival, and everything still worked out with Carlos' help, even though our visit was in high season. It takes a leap of faith to travel this way, but it worked out well for us. * Our room was very nice, and the shared spaces (kitchen, dining area, patio) were clean, well-furnished, and really added to our overall sense of having space. * Breakfast was excellent. We looked forward to it each morning. It was served to us, not laid out buffet style. It started with a fruit plate followed by a special breakfast item that Carlos and staff make in the kitchen. If you have a car, this is a no-brainer place to stay. I would stay here again even without a car, but be aware that without a car there is some additional hassle of needing to call taxis or making the 1 mile walk on foot if you want to go to Santa Elena town for dinner. Monteverde is a special place and we really enjoyed it at Casa Batsu!
