Colonel's Suites

This was a perfect place for our vacation! Everything was extremely clean and the kitchenette was supplied with dishes and coffee. The bathroom had plenty of towels and hair products. The bed was comfortable and there is a tv and ac/heating unit in the living room and bedroom. We received a checkin text that morning with codes for the doors. When I booked, I was concerned we would hear noise from the bakery very early in the morning but we never heard anything! It is a very quiet place! Even though we never felt unsafe in the town we were a little uneasy about the outside doors being unlocked, a code on them would be a plus. It was a great place to stay and we highly recommend!!!

We had a fantastic 3-night stay in Unit 3. Northeast Harbor is a charming village away from the Bar Harbor crowds. It’s centrally located to both the main and the west sections of Acadia National Park: about 20 minutes from Hulls Cove Visitor Center and Cadillac Mountain to the east, and about 30 minutes from Bass Harbor Lighthouse to the west. Some of the trailheads are within 3 miles of The Colonels. Communication with the host was excellent. I received texts at the right moments before and at the end of our stay so we knew what to do at checkin and checkout. Be prepared to walk up 21 steps with your suitcases. (I didn’t mind climbing steps on our arrival, but I kinda did when we got home from a tiring hike!)The suite–really, the small apartment–is quite roomy, very very quiet, meticulously clean, and well supplied. You can tell that the hosts really care. There are plenty of linens and extra blankets, and the kitchen has all the basics. I’m posting some pictures of the kitchen items because that would have been helpful for me to know in advance. Down the hall you’ll find an ice machine, washer, and dryer. I didn’t use the laundry, but I think they had detergent pods available. The machines take 4 quarters each. I like that the restaurant downstairs is open 7 days, unlike many of the restaurants in the area. We only had one opportunity to eat dinner there, but we enjoyed it very much. Highly recommended.

Summary: Great location; rooms are spacious and comfortable; no on-site reception but hosts are responsive by phone/text; get check-in info in advance; pull-out couch needs replacing. Details: Excellent location in Northeast Harbor, which is close to everything you want to do and see on Mt. Desert Island while also being way less crowded and way more laid back than Bar Harbor. The suites are located above the Colonel's Restaurant & Bakery, which has yummy baked goods and a low-key bar. We didn't eat at the restaurant. Despite being over a busy restaurant, our room was quiet and peaceful. Nice spacious living room with couch, chair, and TV. Kitchen has a microwave, Keurig coffee machine (bring your pods or buy them on the way in; the small grocery store in town doesn't carry them), mini-fridge, plates & cups etc., and a small kitchen table -- seats two, not four. The bathroom in our suite had tile floors, an attractive new sink fixture, new lighting, and a new shower head with plenty of water pressure. Nice soap & shampoo, with extras available in the hallway. The bedroom in our suite was really nice. King bed with a quality mattress, new paint, TV, air conditioning. Tip: Get check-in info before you arrive or, at minimum, the wifi password in case your phones don't have cell service. Our phones didn't work in town (they worked elsewhere on the island), so we didn't get the text the owners sent us at check-in time. We had to ask the nice people at the Colonel's Restaurant downstairs to use their house phone to call the owners. The owners actually answered the phone and supplied us the check-in info right away. The ONLY downside was the pull-out couch. It was so uncomfortable that nobody could sleep on it. It was uneven (sloped towards the wall) and you could feel the mattress springs. We contacted the owners and they immediately arranged for us to use the rollaway bed from another unit, so everything was fine in the end. The owners seem very interested in ensuring that guests have a good experience, so I'm sure they will start looking into replacing the pull-out bed.

When I read others’ reviews that this place was very clean, it convinced me to book a stay here. It is a hidden gem right in the quiet village of Northeast Harbor. Extremely clean and updated with all the conveniences you need, including fridge with freezer, microwave, toaster, dishes, glasses, coffee mugs, and silverware…everything to make you comfortable. Spacious suite on the second floor of the restaurant,but I never heard a sound from downstairs. The affordable price is misleading, as I thought I would get much less for my money than I did! This is a bargain and I will definitely stay here again!

Our room was big, key pad to get into room was nice, but no one to talk to if we had an issue. Construction next door was loud and couldn't sleep in if we wanted to.

Several people recommended we stay in Northeat Harbor rather than the very crowded Bar Harbor. Colonels Suites was very convenient and walkable for the small town of Northeast Harbor. Unfortunately due to staffing issues, many restaurants were either closed or had reduced hours, so not as convenient as we had hoped. Refrigerator, microwave, and very nice on-site laundry facilities made things easier. We wish we could have enjoyed the downstairs restaurant more, but we were in Acadia when they opened at 11am, and usually didn’t return until after the place closed.

The unique thing about this location is that there is no front desk. You recieve your room info via text or email and your good. With the bakery and restaurant downstairs you really can just sit back and relax. The restaurant and bakery break your wallet either great food great prices.

Pluses and Minuses -First the pluses, good location on the modest main drag of Northeast Harbor. Located above a very nice bakery and restaurant. Very clean. Bed comfortable (firm). Good sound proofing (I only heard the crying baby when I was in the hall). Very effect air conditioning -Minuses Although their website and ******* listing states daily housekeeping, there was no housekeeping at all. Someone did bring extra toilet paper on request. Requested extra towels did not arrive. It is advertised as a suite. The "living room" in our unit, number 5, was approximately 10 x 10 feet. There was a small sofa and end table, but no table for eating. There is a frig, coffeemaker and microwave, two glasses, two mugs but no plates, etc, so I'm not sure if the advertised "kitchenette" applies. Wi-fi was very spotty and mostly non-existent.
