Sutherland House Victorian Bed and Breakfast

We had a wonderful time at Sutherland house for our anniversary weekend trip. The room was beautiful and so comfortable, and there were so many amenities available to us so that our stay was perfect. The breakfast was the best breakfast I have ever Had. I am gluten free and they were well prepared with special treats for me, and my husband said it was wonderful as well. Highly recommend !!

The place is super cozy and comfortable. Our room was very clean and well decorated. The attention to details was amazing. We really appreciated the complimentary coffee, drinks, and sweets. The breakfast was the absolute highlight. 3 courses, super high quality. Perfect to start the day. Recommended for a nice getaway in the finger lakes area. It’s close to hikes and wineries.

This is such a pretty place I couldn’t even put my bags down before looking around . Everything was immaculately clean and smelled like yummy baking . The host thought of everything. There were greetings and hospitality baskets everywhere . The host and hostess were beautiful people . Giving us just the right amount of space and company . The food was delicious and served to us like we were royalty . The grounds welcomes you immediately as You arrive . I will definitely go again . We enjoyed our rest and the people met very much . Thank you for spoiling us .

Came to NY to see the solar eclipse and happened upon this place. The room was absolutely gorgeous and the shared space upon entering is just so SO lovely. The Breakfast was honestly the best I’ve ever had. The entire experience was perfect. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First Class operation in every way. Amazing building and best-in-class room. We enjoyed every bit of the visit! We stayed Thursday & Friday nights before the eclipse. Our one regret was that our schedule meant we'd miss the second mornings breakfast. Absolutely elegant and yet wholly comfortable experience throughout!!

We stayed in Ivy Solace, which was adorable. The rooms are well coordinated with a lot of attention to the little details that make for a very charming experience. The room was fresh and clean, and very cozy. Anything you may need - toiletries, thread/tape, coffee, water - is available to you during your stay. Breakfast was delicious, and very filling. Location wise, you're very close to the Canandaigua wine trail, as well as the town center. You really can't beat it, we will absolutely be coming back to stay again. The coolest place!! I absolutely loved my stay here - was blown away by the decor and history everywhere. I went when there was lots of snow and it was sooo cosy and as I’m not from America it was really a whole new experience for me. The breakfast was delicious and it was lovely to be able to sit and chat to the other guests. Very easy check in and check out and everything that I needed was provided (and more!) Very quick drive into the centre of town as well. Thank you Sam and Maria for an amazing stay!

The Sutherland House stands as a treasure in a rural stretch of Canandaigua and delivered perfectly on our hopes for a B&B that is also rich in history and inspiration. I personally needed a tranquil place to rest, read, and complete a writing deadline, and the Sutherland House solidified itself as the perfect retreat. Time stands still in this beautiful, historic home. Its furnishings, portraits, and décor pay perfect homage to the Victorian era with impressive detail. My husband and I stayed in Henry’s Haven, one of the more economical of five luxury suites. Our room was immaculate, equipped with a fireplace, private bath, and every amenity to make our stay comfortable. Every morning at 9am, a Sutherland House chef served a three-course breakfast unique to the day before. Our first breakfast began with a yogurt parfait, topped with granola and fresh berries, served in a gorgeous crystal dish. That course was followed by a scrumptious, baked omelet with sausage, then concluded with the lightest, most delicious French toast I’ve ever had. I’m sure every breakfast added a happy pound to my waistline, but the morning feast was by far the highlight of our stay. After each breakfast, I usually sat by the living room fireplace with a book, enjoying the classical music that played quietly in the background. My husband took to reading the vintage newspapers displayed on the coffee table with 19th-century events, such as the sinking of the Titanic. Mornings also afforded an opportunity to converse with the friendly staff and learn more about the lovely home, its history, and the surrounding Finger Lakes and wineries. Again, the Sutherland House was a perfect retreat, poetic in its ambience. In terms of a Bed and Breakfast experience, there can be no finer choice. — Monique Franz

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming inn. The owners managed to install all the modern conveniences that we’ve come to expect while still preserving the unique features of an historic Victorian home. The 4-course breakfast was a real treat and the cook very accommodating for individual preferences. We’ll definitely stay here again on future trips to the Finger Lakes area.
