Had a lovely few days at this small friendly hotel right in the heart of Pangbourne. Staff went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, especially the Receptionist and Emma in the bar. Breakfast was good and we had a lovely room with a big comfy bed. Special thanks to the hardworking housekeeping team, Baylee, Chloe and Kasia who kept our room immaculately clean and tidy and made sure we had everything we might need. We would definitely recommend.

The room was nicely decorated and clean and the bathroom was modern and had a great shower. The issue was with the bed. Hard headboard and soft pillows so couldn't get comfortable. The legs jut out and kept walking in to them. Fell out of bed twice whilst asleep due you soft mattress with little support. Cooked breakfast was good but had to ask for everything including salt and pepper and milk for hot drinks which were not hot. The single member of staff serving us was quite supportive sullen and had ridiculous understanding us.

I came to stay here for the weekend with my partner as we were attending a wedding in the area. Aside from the fact that this hotel is very tired and over priced for what they offer there is only one particular reason I feel I need to leave a review today. Coming back from the wedding we decided to have a drink in the bar before retiring to bed. My partner was the victim of an unprovoked attack in the bar where he was forcefully thrown through a glass door. While I do not hold the hotel responsible for the actions of one violent individual I do have to say I am incredibly disappointed with their response to the incident. At the time of the incident happening the staff at the hotel were more concerned with cleaning up debris than with the wellbeing of my partner who was upset, scared and traumatised. A first aid kit was provided but it was left to another hotel guest to attend to my partner while I was on the phone with the police. I can say that hotel staff did at least let police review cctv of the incident, but throughout the whole ordeal not one member of staff asked my partner if he was ok or offered any assistance. My partner was not ok - after an awful A&E visit to check my partner did not have internal bleeding in his head we were at least able to get back into the hotel in the early hours of the morning. Again no one came to check on my partner and the only acknowledgment we had from hotel staff was upon me asking to speak to a manager at check out. I was told the manager was not in work and was asked to provide our numbers so he could be in touch with us the following day. This has not happened. I can only again express my incredible disappointment that this matter has not been given more attention. Throughout this whole experience I have to say I would have been satisfied if at least one person had shown the slightest bit of care towards my partner. I would not feel safe returning to this hotel and I think all future patrons should be aware that they should not expect any help or concern from hotel staff should they fall victim to a violent crime.

I booked a night at short notice at the Elephant Hotel for myself and my partner. The whole stay was really nice from check in to check out. The room was spacious and clean with nice decor. The refreshments in the room were a nice touch, shower was amazing. The breakfast was really tasty however very small, thank you for a lovely stay!

Nothing like what it used to be. Food was edible and that's as nice as I can be... Service was terrible. Bread was stale, chicken dry and the overall service was really lacking, long waits for plates to be cleared, staff had to be prompted for cutlery, sauces & drinks. The management should really be ashamed of themselves.

Such a shame. Under half competent management this could be a gem. But penny pinching and surreally incompetent management wastes the opportunity. One poor sod working the bar alone Saturday night a prime example. And same with one guy managing breakfast. Sloppy corner cutting clearly for cost everywhere you look. Please please someone take the place over and manage it properly, could be a goldmine business

The wife and I stayed here for one night as we were visiting friends in the area. There's not a lot of competition and the Elephant seemed to be the place to go judging by reviews. We were greeted by an enthusiastic member of staff who sorted us and our friend out with our rooms. the rooms are quirky and have themes such as "Maharaja of Jaipur", "Le Mans", and "Karma Sutra". they have antique furniture and look nothing like a chain hotel - which also means they have character. Our room has a big, flat screen TV, ample high quality tea/coffee, lovely shower and a big, comfortable bed. Everything we needed for a comfy sleep after our friend's birthday bash. The car park is small but there's a public car park right next door which is cheap. The room includes a book which advises you of services available, has useful local phone numbers and information. We didn't try the food so I cannot comment on that. There's a lovely garden area outside which will be great in spring and summer. They have some ground floor rooms which are fairly accessible for those with mobility issues. these can be specifically booked over the telephone. Probably the best place in the area to stay.

Had a lovely stay here. In particular the steak was excellent and a lovely breakfast. Rooms are nicely done, and a lovely garden area which during summer would be lovely, in winter was good to have as a place for our little dog to play in. Good value for money too as we did a deal thing. Al round would recommend

We booked the steak-cation on the discounted rate (New Year offer I think). The steak was delicious - a sharing Tomahawk for 2, we had fancied the Chateubriand but the two available for that night had been purchased - understandable to have a limited number and what we did have was divine so no complaints! The room was really nice - very clean and large with a comfy bed. The bathroom was also clean but the hot tap was missing its cap - far from a disaster but a bit sad in an otherwise lovely room. We were right above the bar which played loud pumping base music past 10pm but I went down to discuss and the barman turned it right down without making me feel like a moaning annoyance. Breakfast was the low point - the hotel was quiet so rather than seating us in the restaurant we were put in a booth literally in reception - with the hotel door open. Very odd! No continental buffet table (it would have been very wasteful to do one for so few) but it did mean having to ask the waiter if we could have some of the bits and he wasn’t sure what was available. My husband asked about cereals and was told ‘weetabix and cereals’ were available. Pretty minor but a bit disgruntling when sat in a cold reception area. All in all we had a really nice time and all staff were pleasant and helpful.
