Pingyao No. 1 International Youth Hostel

Good for the price. Recommend if you are on a budget. The location is just outside of the city wall, but it's a very walkable distance. Really quiet at night. Spacious room. Good staff. Shared bathroom but we were the only ones staying in the entire property. The shower pressure was low, probably needed to be fixed.

I was given a very warm reception, I felt safe and comfortable. I was welcomed by the sweetest lady who showed me the structure and made me feel cared about, without that being invasive. It is only five minutes walking from the city wall, in a very quiet neighbourhood, 15 to 20 minutes from the high speed train station (by taxi) or 35/40 by bus. I think that the building is a home transformed in hostel, so the experience of staying there is twice interesting, because you can see how homes are structured and how people live, outside of the touristic routes. I often travel alone, safety is the priority and in some other situations I did not felt completely at ease, but this was not the case. After many days spent on the road this was the perfect spot to recharge. I recommend who is planning to go to Pingyao to stay at 平遥壹号国际青年旅舍. I would definitely go back if I have the opportunity.
