Maistra Select Island Hotel Katarina

The sea was too clean. The sky too blue. The views were just too amazing. The food was too tasty. People were too friendly. The sunsets just took my breath away. Rovinj and Hotel Katrina Island are just too perfect.

This hotel is a gem, We loved our stay here. The staff are incredibly friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble from the reception, to the cleaner, the boat and restaurant staff. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The pool was spotless and we never had any trouble getting a sun lounger by the pool or by the sea. There are swimming spots all around the island. We loved going to Rovinj on the boat every night. It was a magical 10 days!

Island Hotel Katarina Despite the facilities showing their age a bit, this was our favorite stay in Croatia. As others mentioned, you come to Delphin Harbor, a shuttle driver will guide one person from your party to a complimentary parking lot approximately 1km away, then bring your driver back to the harbor. Keep an eye on your arrival time, the ferry leaves the port on the half-hour, so arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of time to make sure that everyone is shuttled back to the harbor in time. Otherwise, you'll be waiting another hour for the next ferry. The reception area is new and contains an outdoor bar and seating area, so enjoying a cold drink on their patio is not the worst that could happen. A short 5-minute ferry ride and you're on the island. The grounds and facilities are older, but it is evident that they were very elegant in its hey-day. There are activities for children, a walking path around the island (don't miss sunset from the back side of the island!) and several wonderful swimming coves. The furnishings and linens could use an update, but the views of Rovinj from your balcony cannot be beat. Lovely! There was outdoor entertainment when we stayed, which was nice for a little while, but lasted too late and inhibited enjoyment of our patio, and ultimately our sleep. It seems that music should be taken inside, because not everyone wants to hear it, but it was so loud that there was no choice. This resort has so, so much potential to be spectacular, but needs some updates to get there. Despite this, it is a gem and the natural beauty overcomes its shortcomings. We hope to stay there again on a future visit.

I stayed in the hotel with my best friend we wanted a relaxing getaway, and we definitely got it. We had a twin room in the main building on the ground floor spotlessly clean really quiet at night time and had the most beautiful view of the old town. Breakfast was superb had everything that you could want. Every day we spent on the hotel beach, it was spotlessly clean no shortage of sun, loungers, and sun. Umbrellas staff are always available to help. The beauty of being on the island is that you’ve got lots of walks through the woods to get you out the Sun and also shady side of the island. You can go in the water and to get out the Sun. Boat service over to the mainland just made going out in the evening extra special. It’s a fantastic service and the staff on the boat always helps people get on and off. I love this hotel so much. I’ve booked 3 rooms this to come back in September with my mum, my dad, my brother and his partner to celebrate my 50th and my mum’s 80th, so I’d like to say that says it all well done to all the team Selena Stray

WOW! WOW! WOW! Just returned from a fabulous holiday on this beautiful island Katarina! The hotel is lovely with a beautiful old charm , with marble floors , terraces , magnificent stairways like a Italian Palace. The manicured stunning gardens are surrounded by pathways taking you around the island , passing pools and fountains with amazing views over to the old town of ROVINJ, it really is breathtaking! Pathways also take you down to the beach with plentiful sun beds everywhere (also placed on the gardens under trees for shade if required). Swimming pools are pristine again with lots of sun beds. We had a delightful room with a modern bathroom , very comfortable bed , and balcony with exceptional views of the old town of Rovinj. FOOD. We only booked B&B but on our second night decided to try dinner as the breakfast is excellent with everything you can imagine! Dinner did not disappoint it was delicious with so much choice, in fact we enjoyed it so much we dined 4nights out of 7nights! On our next visit we will definitely book halfboard. We dined twice in The Batimar beach /bar restaurant which was superb. Small menu of delicious pizzas, seafood and salads……… you really must try ! STAFF. From the moment we walked into the reception we were greeted with a lovely smile and welcome from SANJA ( we have tried for over 4 years to stay here but unfortunately due to COVID Etc we were unable to) She knew who we were immediately because of our exchanging emails and greeted us like we were friends! All the staff are wonderful and wanting to please with a smile at all times, we found this everywhere we went in the hotel. I’m sure when anyone reads this review you will see we cannot find any faults with this hotel as we enjoyed every moment of our holiday and will definitely return ASAP! I stayed at this hotel with my family and found it to be a unique experience and enjoyable experience. There are no cars or roads on the island, it probably takes around 1 hour to walk the circumference of the island, there is a footpath to help make this easier. The island has it's own beach area which doesn't have any natural shade from the sizzling summer heat, so most people relied on parasols or the trees in the beautiful park area just before the beach. The swimming pool is large and was fun to use, because of the design, we spent a lot of time there. I should add, the view from the island, of the mainland, is fantastic, especially at night when the mainland lights come on. Unfortunately, the island does not have enough lighting of its own for night walks, which was disappointing. I found the hotel staff to be really friendly and helpful, great customer service. One downside is the restaurant, breakfast omelette was delicious, but apart from that, I thought the rest of the food was mediocre, and dinner time became boring by the 3rd night. Be warned that, we paid for half board, but this does not include drinks, which are overpriced. I think it was £4 for a small glass of coke and when there's 4 of you these costs quickly add up. On this point, I should add, Croatia overall, is a very expensive country, from Taxis to tours, because tourism is their main industry and it only lasts a few months. There are boats to pick you up from the mainland and from the island every hour, no charge if you are a hotel guest, and the boat Captains are very friendly as well, the trip takes about 20 mins each way and I found it quite enjoyable. PS the water at the beach is crystal clear and there are loads of fish swimming around close to the pebbles, so remember to take your snorkels.

Briefly: Nice environment: rating 4 / experience: rating 0   the explanation follows: On the Internet, you can find a story about Count Milewsky, who bought the island some 120 years ago and wanted to beautify it... And yes, he succeeded. Traces of his investment in the island can still be seen on the island. Now, nowadays, the current user is using the infrastructure without much investment. This can be seen on the paths, on the lighting fixtures, accompanying facilities around the island... The rooms themselves are a story in themselves. And as it happens in situations where the infrastructure is used without additional investments to maintain and improve the standards, we have problems with outflow and inflow of water (both hot and cold). After we complained about that problem - an "expert" was sent to us, who convinced us that he couldn't do better at his house either :( - which is basically irrelevant... In any case ("experts") to avoid problems with the drain, they "strangle" the inflow and lo and behold - it works poorly but it works ... (in the style: what would you want from a three-star hotel) and there is of course the "joker" explanation - your room is at the end and it couldn't be better... but don't worry, we will still charge you the full price without any apologies :) (cca 400 EUR/day) Now let's go further - in a restaurant, for example - differences in levels, the stairs are not marked properly, so it is possible that in the belief that everything is the same level, you miss your foot and stumble, if not fall... (Such signs and tapes are not expensive and everyone who is serious puts them in their premises, but apparently they saved on that as well) A similar situation is when you go out from the reception to the park - the frame from the door plus the difference in levels is a dangerous combination that is not marked as appropriate - and it happened - a fall without breaking, fortunately, my wife experienced, "just" sprained her ankle - enough to it spoils the holiday, but more on that later. I mentioned the restaurant - the air conditioners did not work almost at all during our stay - it was very unpleasant to eat in the restaurant, especially during dinner. Too hot and steamy... And yes, one more thing that some kind of inspection should check - neither during breakfast nor during dinner were cooling panels or refrigerated showcases installed in which cheeses and cured meat products would resist heat and malignant microorganisms ... and this is not just ******* savings, this is a direct threat to the health of the guests, and I will say something about that later... MOSQUITOES - a scourge the likes of which we have not seen for a long time - no chemical, technical - or any other protective measures against mosquitoes were taken during our stay there, and I am convinced neither before nor after. Wonderful place to stay in Rovinj, Croatia. The property is beautiful with lots to do for all ages. We especially liked the path around the island and the beach. I was a little leery about the buffet style meals, but was pleasantly surprised. The food was quite good with good variety. Our room was spacious, however the furniture was quite dated and there weren’t as many power outlets as we would have liked. We found the staff quite friendly, helpful and accommodating. Please don’t let the fact that this property is on an island deter you from choosing Island Hotel Katarina. We will be back…Highly recommended.
